I decided to get into drawing Fakemon. I had an idea for a fanmade region based on the Southern US, and I wanted to make fanmade pokemon for it. This is the first one I made, the Grass/Rock Bear Pokemon, Barcub! Please tell me what you think, and of course all criticism is welcome. I really just started getting into drawing, so please excuse the poor art.
Barcub is the grass type starter of my region, and as it evolves will develop a musical motif, as that is one of the biggest things the South is known for. It’s also the reasoning I gave it a secondary Rock typing, as a nod to Rock n’ Roll music. I plan on giving its later evolutions a crudely shaped guitar made from a tree, but I feel like that will be too similar to Rillaboom and his drums.
Personally, I think it looks more like a dog than a bear. I kinda wish the nose was a little bigger and longer to give it more of a snout. I’m on the fence about the hair on its head, the idea is to slowly change it into a pompadour, to mimic Elvis Presley. Also, I wish I left the fangs out until the later evolutions, since it reminds me too much of Sprigatito, which I actually used as a reference to get the quadrupedal stance right. Other Pokemon I used as reference were other bear cub Pokemon like Teddiursa and Cubchoo as well as pictures of real bears to get the desired shape of the ears and build.
