Let me start off by saying that I played this game on the game boy advance ages ago. Back then, I actually really wanted to like it but it just didn’t look good. In fact it was so off-putting to me at the time I didn’t finish it. I wasn’t a hardcore graphics person back then, but I love puzzle games and was bummed I just couldn’t enjoy it more.

I tried the demo and then bought it. No regrets. I’m having a ton of fun with it. And I’m sure it’s just me and not true, but it feels tighter and more responsive than back then in small ways. Definitely smoother.

There’s a lot in this that, if you like the Captain Toad games in my opinion, you’ll like this. But please try the demo first.

  2. thumpydumpy

game is not bad but $50 is wayyyy too much for a port of an old puzzle game

  3. devenbat

About what I expected. I’ll pick it up but after a good sale. $50 for a 20 year old 5 hour game is a bit steep

  4. GeoJoopis

This game really pisses me off and I’m having a blast. 👍🏼

  5. dokka_doc

It’s a fantastic game. The controls are tight and methodical. Some of the reviewers seem put off by that and I’m not sure why.

  6. -ToPimpAButterfree-

Seems like a $30 game in a flashy disguise

  7. It’s fun as hell. I started it up and didn’t stop until w4. Takes me back to when I was a kid and this was one of my favorite games to pick back up every few months. $50 might be a bit much for how short it is but in my opinion well worth it.

  8. Actually, Mario vs. Donkey kong can easily warrant a 70 dollar price tag given the polish, gameplay and the novelty factor of having two of the most iconic video game characters ever. I don’t understand the reasons behind the relatively low scores. Solid 11/10 for me.

  9. realblush

If this was 30 dollars I’d have gotten it day 1

  10. TheSpiralTap

I’d compare it to Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. It’s undoubtedly fun but once you’re done, you’re done. That doesn’t make it a bad game. It’s a fantastic game that you might break out a couple times a year, get completely addicted to it for a day or two then move on.

  11. thorpedo_btn

Play time of FIVE hours – expensive per hour…!!!

  12. matt82swe

Started to play it last night. I wanted to have a relaxing game and hate that the classic mode has a timer, noticed that casual mode didn’t. Is there any other difference between classic and casual?

  13. AdministrativeAct902

Kids absolutely love this game… makes them think as well. Good combo!

  14. Asad_Farooqui

Definitely doesn’t seem worth my $50 dollars at the moment. Game seems too easy and doesn’t seem to last very long going by the reports. New cutscenes look gorgeous tho.

l’ll probably stick with Donkey Kong 94 for my Mario vs DK fix at the moment, plus I recently got Theatrhythm Final Bar Line on sale for half off with all the DLC included, so I’m slowly chipping away at that.

  15. ThaEternalLearner

Realistically, MvDK is a $30 game but when you add the Mario tax then it’s a $40 game at the most.

  16. Having played it for a while now, I can safely say that the only thing that should keep you from playing this is the price tag. It’s probably $10-$15 too expensive, but it’s just as fun and polished as I remember it being while looking and sounding better than ever.

  17. trashday89

The new super mario bros of puzzle games

  18. BroshiKabobby

This might be the first Mario Switch game I pass on.

If it was $30 I’d try it but $50 is asking for a bit much

  19. Misodoho

I really don’t like the art style and camera feels too tight or zoomed in. I loved march of the minis on the DS. Maybe I’ll give the demo another go but in handheld mode & see if it feels better.

  20. vladimirVpoutine

I’ll be honest and I don’t want to be negative but after super Mario wonder I think I’m done spending $90+ on a game that I either feel like I’m walking through or whatever it is I don’t know.

I really liked Odyssey but I don’t feel it was worth the price although moreso than alot of the other Mario games. I’m sure I will get down voted into oblivion but for how much they charge for these games I just think I’m going to tap out for the time being. I got pretty far into wonder and dropped it.

  21. ChaoticChatot

I have finished the main campaign at this point, and I think it was really fun experience overall. It looks like the post game content is a similar size to the main campaign, although the levels so far have been a bit shorter.

The game was very easy for the first 5 worlds, but the difficulty does ramp up. Some of the puzzles are tricky, and sometimes requires fairly precise platforming, much moreso than I thought the game would ask of me.

The later boss battles were also quite difficult to perfect, one of them took me about 20 tries.

I understand why people are put off by the price since it looks like a budget title, but I also feel like I’ll have got my monies worth once I’m finished with the game.

  22. PhilosophicalPorygon

I played the original on the GBA, and would love to play this one but I just can’t for the price tag of $50. Seems like this should be a $30 or maybe $40 game.

  23. san_murezzan

Funny that I tend to think Nintendo Life reviews are on the generous side, not the case here at all

  24. ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp

For a £30 budget title, yeah I’d say a 7 or 8 is about right. It’s a fun little puzzler.

  25. This should be a $30 game MAX

Nintendo is crazy asking $50 for it

  26. QuinnMallory

Use promo code HELLO20 on qvc.com, and that includes free shipping, you’re welcome, $30 game.

  27. Destroyer_Wes

I love the Mario puzzle games like these and the captain toad but $50 is too much for this. I’ll wait til it goes on sale closer to 30.

  28. Crafty_Chipmunk_3046

Fun game but too expensive for what it is. Like everything these days.

  29. MattofCatbell

I think it’s a very cute game but not a must buy kind of game.

  30. JustSomeLesbo2

I personally gave it an 8/10. Its a short game and quite expensive for what it is. However its a cute, beautiful game with interesting worlds and fun stages with good puzzles which can make you think. The levels aren’t painfully long…like bite sizes. I liked it although its not something you’d be missing out on if you didn’t play it right this second.

  31. shinikahn

The game is cute and a very fun brainteaser. Having said that, I’m always confused about Nintendo’s pricing strategy for games. Why is Metroid Remastered cheaper than this? Why is Mario Strikers more expensive than both?

  32. pineapple6969

Man so many people upset about the price. Just play it and sell it when you’re finished like I do
