SS Gladion duos 7 Legendary Arenas with 7 eggmons [Pokemon Masters EX]

SS Gladion is a CS unit. If the Strike + Sprint role combo doesn’t make it obvious, then his ridiculous AOE damage from his B Move will. I can’t wait to see what the CS runners have in store for their showcases with him.

(I made a basic attempt here featuring not one but two Fairy-type sygna suit rivals: https://youtu.be/17do8qp5V6g?si=QgBXky1-JWku8yPu)

Since he’s a good CS unit though, that probably means he isn’t a good LG unit, right? And, well, his solo potential definitely isn’t high. He’s only done Latios as of the time I’m writing this, and while I think he has one or two more in him, he’s definitely not gonna be reaching the heights of other modern master fairs soon in that regard.

But despite his poor solo performance, I’d actually venture to say that he has a pretty good matchup against a lot of LAs, especially as a strike unit. And that’s because, for some reason, he’s been given two defensive passives that lets him ignore a lot of LA’s gimmicks.

First and probably the most noteworthy is his unique passive, “Just Give It Up Already,” which not only gives him immunity to stat debuffs but reflects them back to the opponent. This gives him a great matchup against a lot of LAs, with some of them like Azelf and Registeel even being susceptible to the debuffs that they themselves throw out.

Second is Condition Nullification, which is a combined Status Immunity and Interference Immunity. Any solo or Gauntlet enthusiast knows that the bane of many optimized runs is the random burn proc from Flamethrower or the ill-timed flinch from Zen Headbutt. Gladion removes all of that RNG altogether, and even serves as an answer to the likes of Tornadus’ Toxic or Entei’s Fire Spin (if he weren’t Fire-weak he’d be a good Entei counter).

Add on to that Sync Regen from his grid, and you have a self-sufficient unit who also dishes out good damage. That’s why I run him with eggmons here – he really only needs a bit more support to see several arenas through.

That’s not to say he doesn’t have any cons, and surprisingly his gauge isn’t really one of them (though I did give him the Sprint Cake, which gives him bonus speed). While yes, I do have to run him with more gauge-efficient partners, I rarely had cases where I was waiting for the gauge to fill up.

To me, the most frustrating part of his kit is how he has no way of boosting his own accuracy outside of the Acc+10 tile on his grid, which you need at least 13 energy to get. The previous paragraph about gauge management assumes that he always hits his Fleur Cannons – if he misses, the team’s gauge definitely suffers.

He also isn’t particularly bulky as he has no way of boosting his own defenses, and his only form of sustain is Sync Regen. While the Sp Atk debuffs and his master passive help on the special side, he’s very vulnerable to physical attacks. That’s why a lot of his eggmon partners here patch this up, whether through defensive buffs, Attack debuffs, or potions.

All that said, I think he’s a fun unit. He’s no SST Red or even NC Nate, but he has several tools that make him a lot more defensive than he seems.

Here are the time stamps, his partners, and the sync grids used. All of these clears used 3-star Fairy Gear:

  1. If I had a nickel for every Sygna Suit Rival with a 90% accurate move and no methods to fix it in their base kit, I’d have 3 nickels…

    Hopefully this trend ends soon

  2. came and returned after a long break from the game.

i was fortunate enough to get him in my second multi, he is so much fun to use.
