It’s great. I’m about 8 hours in really starting to enjoy it. Finally at the point where the map has opened up a little and I’ve got some decent units.

Just seems a lot of positive vibes around this game. Worst comments I have seen is that it might not be difficult enough. Will get to it eventually for sure (just started Atelier Ryza trilogy, so will be busy for quite some time).

  3. I honestly couldn’t get into the battle system but that’s my fault for expecting something like FFT or Fire Emblem. I just had never played a strategy RPG with this kind of gameplay.

See what happens when you put a new game on a Nintendo platform Day 1 Atlus?

    Love to see it.

I’d be grateful with a PC release, hows it run on Switch?

I loved the demo so much and in a world where FF7:re and Infinite Wealth didn’t exist I’d buy it and be playing it now. Will pick it up eventually though

GOTY for me so far. Love strategy games love to recruit characters I am hooked

I’ve been playing the demo. I’m not sure it’s clicking with me.

I love the idea that the tactics take place in unit composition and active / passive ability programming. I think that’s really cool, but it doesn’t seem to work right with the fact that you can preview a battle’s outcome. The preview tells you how much health each unit will be left with after a battle and it seems to be very accurate, barring some rng that can take place at runtime. So, if I see I’m going to lose, I can tweak my unit’s programming to see if I can tip the preview in my favor, but I can’t tell *why* my tweaked program is actually better until I actually watch the battle take place, at which point I’m locked into the result. That seems weird.

I haven’t gotten to a place in the demo where tactics programming is really necessary – in fact, my army is kind of steamrolling – but I figure the game can go one of two ways:

    * tactics programming becomes necessary later in the game or at higher difficulties, in which case the awkward battle preview guess-and-check becomes core gameplay.
    or
    * tactics programming is never really necessary – only unit composition and leveling / gear are necessary, in which case core gameplay is just leveling.

Neither scenario is very appealing to me.

If the battle result preview is already simulating the battle in the background, why can’t I just watch it, so I can tweak my tactics in a more informed way?

I was unable to find a physical copy in France, too. I hope they soon print more of it the demo really sold me.

Really great game. I’m currently hooked on this one

  11. Already have like 25hours on it from the weekend and I love it. It’s obviously a bit of a niche game that may not appeal to everyone as it mixes rts with strategy but for me it the nostalgia of the old ogre battle which no one has ever really done properly (until now) since OB 64.

  12. I’m only about 8 hours in and absolutely loving it.

ATLUS got another hit on their hands, we love to see it.

I haven’t been able to find a copy in my country either (in Europe). It’s completely sold out on both PS5 and Switch everywhere. A bit annoying, but also cool to see people get in on the action.

Looking forward to restocks, and hope you all have a wonderful time with the game! 🙂

The skill ceiling for strategizing is wild. You really have to think about team comps and switching everyone around and using your items. Never had to sweat this much in Fire Emblem. Kinda ruined Fire Emblem a bit for me.

I tried the demo and I love it!

But I really want this one on physical, cause that cover art looks amazing!

At last for me, it is appealing to me.

I wish I could have gotten a physical collectors edition before they sold out. Alternatively, I wish they’d sell the card game that came with it separately. It looks fun.

  18. Any-Complaint5421

Crazy, easy to sell out though when you’re major retailers in a city only get like 2 copies….& I live in Vegas at that. Lmao.

  19. Fantastic title. Played 5 straight hours last night nonstop…when everyone was asleep.

  20. Not sure if this is my kind of game but I’ve loved everything I played from Atlus so I’ll check out the demo for sure

  21. cokezerodesuka

It’s sold out in my country as well 😭 i wasn’t expecting a lot of people to buy it so close to launch so i didn’t try to get a copy

  22. perfectfate

Backlog so long. Hmm gotta keep an eye on this and wait for a sale and buy before the physical runs out

  23. akujiki87

I had sworn off buying any more games. My backlog is ridiculous. I havnt had time to play, let alone even try to juggle multiple games at once. But I broke that for the Unicorn Overlord CE. I love the series they pump out. Had to support day 1.

  24. Are there actually unicorns in Unicorn Overlord?

This is a serious question, I swear. I like unicorns and I like a lot of RPGs that Atlus publishes and I have been considering taking a chance on this one and it would be a big selling point for me if it did, in fact, have unicorns.

  25. riddlemore

I’ve been watching a streamer play it on max difficulty while I wait for my copy to be delivered. I’m excited! I’m definitely too dumb for max difficulty though lmao

  26. paulrenzo

Would have sunk my teeth into this game if not for the fact that I’m still trying to finish Persona 3, then Dragon’s Dogma 2 after. And there’s Tears of the Kingdom that I put on hold.

Definitely still going to pick it up for the Switch though, just don’t know when.

  27. gryphonbones

I’m playing tactical and it’s a bit too easy so far- but maybe it will scale up. In general I love this game- but if it doesn’t ramp up in difficulty, I guess I should have chosen expert.

  28. AccomplishedCatch649

Awesome to see this, really enjoying this one :)))

  29. masterage

Really, the game is “easy” because of player freedom, reminds me of Disgaea in that aspect (just… taking itself far more seriously). You just have a super huge advantage over most maps if you explore the mechanics available to you.

    Its otherwise super solid.

  30. Hefty-Candidate8915

This is a definite buy for me. . . eventually.

I’ve heard nothing but good things sans the mediocre story, but I do think the stories that Matsuno developed in his Ogre Battle games were a huge component of why the fans loved them so much. I know replayability is more caused by gameplay loops and fun mechanics, which Unicorn Overlord has nailed, but without the compelling story on the initial playthrough I fear the game might feel like it’s missing something.

So really, all I’m asking for is an OB64 remake or a Matsuno/Vanillaware collab.

ETA: Also less weeb bait please.

  31. waitmyhonor

For those familiar with the company and its game, can we expect a sale in the coming months?

  32. galleyest

I got a physical copy in the US and the Gamestop employee said that their store only got sent two Switch copies and one Playstation copy. Hopefully they print more!
