Wii U & 3DS EShop servers were shut down. Makes me worry for the future of Nintendo Switch?

I wish I saved it, there was a Reddit post that said 3DS and Wii U online servers and eshop are to be shut down in 2023. But I read another one claiming they will show down this year very soon on the 8th (4/8/2024).

“[News It’s Official, 3DS And Wii U Online Play Ends 8th April 2024. Nintendo closed down the Wii U and 3DS eShops in 2023, meaning that you are no longer able to buy digital games on either platform. Online play for these consoles is scheduled to shut down on 8th April 2024](https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/when-does-3ds-and-wii-u-online-shut-down-nintendo-eshop-and-online-play-closure-guide#:~:text=News%20It’s%20Official%2C%203DS%20And,Play%20Ends%208th%20April%202024&text=Nintendo%20closed%20down%20the%20Wii,down%20on%208th%20April%202024).”

At first I was thinking well, doesn’t affect me. I’m a switch owner and the only Wii I owned was the original which we no longer have. Then it dawned on me the Wii and Wii U really aren’t that old.. Then I realized all my games for my switch I own digitally. I got a 1TB memory. I mainly went fully digital for a few reasons. I can’t sell my games (had a bad habit of trading in) and my games cant be lost or stolen. I have a huge ammount of games purchased and DLC through the Eshop.

I understand nothing ever last. But if Nintendo is that quick to do this on the Nintendo Wii and Wii U, how long will switch last? I guess download all your games you own fast before they shut the Switch servers down in the future. I just cant believe the Wii U of all will be shut down. That’s like Steam for PC shutting down. Could you imagine the riots if that happened? My steam list goes over 240 games, 3/4 triple A titled games. I cant even imagine how much money I put into steam games. That’s $4,800-$6,000 worth of games in one single Steam account.

Maybe they will shut down for 3DS and Wii and Wii U but still offer the users to redownload there games and simply just unable to purchase other content. Since the Wii is 18 years old, 3DS 12 years old and Wii U 12 years old. The Nintendo Switch is 7 years old. So given the average lifespan of the other 3 consoles does that mean we should expect the Switch online and eshop services to shut down for good?

Overall, I get why they are doing it. What’s the use of a 3DS when you can undock the switch making it superior in every way. Switch can do anything the Wii and Wii U can do. I don’t pretend to know how everything works so maybe someone will put me in my place/re educate me XD. But I am very interested to hear what you guys have to say about it and if you feel the same way.

Thanks!

\[UPDATE: Forgot to mention the post said the Eshops been down since 2023, but all online is to go very soon\]
