Need help designing the Grass starter

I’m trying to design the gras starter of my region, but can’t figure out how to make this guy more grassy without just adding leaves.

The region is based on New Zealand, and this critter is of course a kiwi (the bird). My idea is that as it evolves, it evolves into a moa, which is an extinct type of flightless bird. Its typing is grass / fighting btw

I know you said without anymore leaves, but I think three on top of it’s head like Torchic would look really good.

For non-leaf ideas, I think if you want to emphasize the fighting type, you could give it larger feat and legs. Sorry of none of this helps, I’m not that good with fakemon designs.

Final form could be based off an elephant bird or terror bird!

You could make him bigger and have vines for hands and final evo either fighting or Pure

  4. I think you should try to play around with body proportions a bit more, as a side note to what you’d like to do. Right now, it’s resembling closer to the proportions and coloration of a real kiwi. [This chart is probably good reference](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D0cPMN7U0AAv3Zi?format=jpg&name=900×900)

As far as making it more grassy, you could try changing the base color to be something more on the spectrum of green for a start. Typically, you then invest in inspired patterns or add-ons (leaves, shrubs, plants, flowers, etc) in a way that stands out in the design. Bulbasaur has a bulb, Chikorita a large head leaf, Treecko a bush tail, Grookey a wooden stick, etc. You can also play with colors that compliment green (yellow in Snivy, brown in Chespin, white in Rowlet) but probably should go back to the drawing board with this design if you want it to feel more like a starter before you receive more advice.

I hope that wasn’t too harsh! I just do want to offer helpful critique.

I’d recommend to add more of a kiwi fruit feeling. Let’s us now it’s also the fruit

Well, what a coincidence, I’m doing a region on new zealand 😀

Kiwi is a fun start. what’s he evolve into though? giant moa? emu? ostrich?

you could give him some tiny hand nubs his wings are useless but they’d be helpful in expressions.

I know you said no leaves but I can’t help but imagine it’s body made of leaves so it looks like bush baby kiwi

  10. The_Heartbreaker27

That could be cool. Look like it’s peeking out a bush

You can make his eyes look like an half kiwi (fruit)

Make him green, not very green, just a more brownish darker shade of green.

So, you said into a moa but a fighting bird draw blazakin comparisons and hard. So to avoid that how a different direction and lean into fruits: make it grow into an angry looking pineapple. . . Grenade. New Zealand has a reputation for military aptitude so instead of close comabt fighting birds, it’s theme is ranged explosive fruits.

So the moa becomes more yellow and feathers on the body are more spikes to bring up the pineapple angle, the foot scutes boot brown to invoke marching boots and the head with a coconut or something on the head to invoke a helmet with the head it self being squared off to invoke the idea of a muzzle break.

The final stage is actually cross between a raptor and cassowary. Foot toe claws suggests a combat knife and the color now red as it has elements of the sandlewood tree: AKA the Dynamite tree. The head crest even more invokes a helmet with the waddle being a set of loose chin straps. Beak a cross between a muzzlebreak such that if the neck went parnell to the head the whole thing looks like an artillery gun.

Try enlarging the head, separating it from the body with a neck and making the eyes big and cute. Also look at kiwiin from creatures of sonaria for design inspiration

  15. Mattnic379

This could evolve into a large bush with a Kiwi head.

  16. DynoBelin

Why not make the beak more woody? Try adding some wood texture like the rings on the centre of the log

Maybe give it a angry with a green Mohawk
