Taking the lead at the Battle Rally (Main Character Upgrade, 9,800 points) [Pokemon Masters EX]

0:00 – Free upgrade + Pattern

Main Character Upgrade is one of the best free upgrades you can get, and there’s a case for it being the best one. Multiple Master Fairs, lots of good Poke Fairs, not to mention all the eggmons that you can use as fillers in stages that call for it. It more than makes up for the fact that I got the Sprint-heavy pattern AGAIN – this is the same pattern I got last week lmao

0:10 – Sprint + Support vs. Psychic-weak Bruno – EX Sabrina / Support Gastly / Lodge Leaf

And it’s extra funny coz I got this stage as Area 1 AGAIN. What in the space-time distortion. I used Sabrina again since she’s a good damage-dealing support, but I paired her with a different lodge pair and eggmon.

2:15 – Sprint + Field vs. Ghost-weak – EX Event Victor / Riley / Archer

Unlike last week, there are several main characters among the sprint + field pile, so I’m able to take advantage of the bonus in both stages here. This stage being Ghost-weak made it an obvious choice for Event Victor.

4:11 – Sprint + Strike vs. Fire-weak Wikstrom – EX-R SS Gladion / EX Selene / EX-R Penny

Wikstrom has constant SpA debuffs, so using Gladion against him seemed fun. Penny provided the synergy while Selene gave the upgrade and master passive boosts.

6:08 – Support + Tech vs. Rock-weak Blue – EX-R SS Silver / EX-R NC Calem / EX-R Tierno

I once again saved NC Serena for Area 10 as an option, and that’s especially relevant for this week since she could give the Main Character Upgrade. (I once again ended up not using her lol)

8:18 – Sprint + Support vs. Steel-weak Diantha – EX-R Paulo / EX-R NC Rosa / EX Hop

A bit annoying because of Diantha’s Healthy Advantage, but Rosa’s Sing spam is so OP.

11:12 – Sprint + Field vs. Fairy-weak Bruno – EX Volo / EX Mix Red / EX-R NC Rosa

See above, but with the added luxury of on-type damage and debuffs from Volo. I would’ve used Bede instead of Mix Red but I wanted to save him in case I needed him in the later stages with the Tech bonus. (I didn’t but eh.)

14:44 – Field + Strike vs. NC Calem – EX-R Mix Blue / EX-R Geeta / EX-R Akari

Since these three are gonna be teammates for many Rally rotations, it’s always a treat if one of their theme skills happens to correspond with the free upgrade. NC Calem is weak to Defense debuffs too so this was easier than usual.

17:37 – Sprint + Tech vs. Fairy-weak Hala – EX-R SS Wally / EX-R Classic Elesa / EX SS May

Fairy-weak opponent on a Sprint + Tech stage??? You’re too kind this week, Rally. I hope SS Brendan gets Sprint EX too purely so that the SS Hoenn trio would have the same EX role.

20:02 – Sprint + Strike vs. Fairy-weak Lance – EX-R SS Wally / EX-R NC Silver / EX Kris

Two Fairy-weak stages back to back meant I could use SS Wally again! He doesn’t have MP on his zone anymore though, so I had to rely on Silver and Kris’s flinches to see this clear through. I resetted for TM MPR on Silver in case I needed him for Area 10.

22:38 – Sprint + Tech vs. VH Darach – EX-R NC Silver / EX NC Leaf / EX Bertha

Luckily got an easy Area 10, and resetting for that TM MPR on NC Silver in Area 9 paid off. NC Leaf provided debuffs and heals while Bertha made sure the sand never stopped. Was closer than I thought it was going to be – think I should’ve reset for Sandstorm MPR on Bertha to make the clear safer.
