As we approach an upcoming Nintendo Direct, please remember that most Nintendo "leaks" are completely fabricated.
Here are some telltale signs of a fake leak:
-
There's just too much in it. – Fake leaks often have way too many things in it. It's very rare for the entire lineup from a Nintendo Direct to get leaked, for example.
-
They say things that people have wanted for a long time. – Often fake leaks will say things that people have wanted to be on the Switch for a long time. Metroid Prime 4, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD and Silksong are very common in fake leaks because people have been talking about them for a long time, so people get excited for them.
-
They're too vague. – Often fake leaks are extremely vague. "There will be a new Zelda" or "There will be a new Mario Kart."
-
They're too specific. – Also often fake leaks will have WAY too many details, and will sound like something from the Fantendo Wiki. They'll include a title and a story and everything. Pretty much all real leaks ever posted have just been subtle hints.
There has only been one 100% accurate Nintendo leaker ever and that's Pyoro. Generally people who claim to have insider information either got their info through a game of Telephone, or they're simply lying. Don't blindly trust leaks you saw.

Every Nintendo leak comes to 4chan 1 or 2 days before go-live. It has been this way for years.
Also adding to this: in 10 years, not a single Zelda related “leak” turned out to be truth. TP and WW remasters coming to Switch is an obvious guess these so called leakers are predicting for years.
The best way to tell if it’s fake is if it claims Metroid prime 4 news
I feel half the time these “leakers” forget that Nintendo is just weird and doesn’t take the most obvious path. Like we heard F-Zero “leaks” for years and they always portray it as better than what came before. Instead we get F-Zero 99 when we do get a new F-Zero which was definitely not what anyone was expecting.
These “leakers” who “leak” entire Nintendo Directs also seem to forget that Nintendo will feature games in presentations that won’t fit into the 20-40 male video game player demographic. Like I doubt anybody expected a DC Super Hero Girls video game to be featured and focused on during a Direct but awhile back that happened. If you are going to make a fake leak at least throw in a variety of fake game leaks.
> Here’s some tips on how to recognize a fake leak.
You see it on reddit.
The number one biggest red flag is that they never mention all the third party schlock that inevitably winds up in these Directs.
Midori is also trustworthy but people mistake her opinions for facts, she just speculates a lot but because she’s a fan like us.
Years ago there was a magazine here in the UK called Ngamer, and they created a whole rumour of what the – then rumoured – Wii U was going to be called; Project Butterfly (iirc). News sites were reporting it as if it was some massive scoop, and it was literally an editorial team taking the piss of Nintendo/Gaming fan fervour.
Then, when I started working for a few online sites, we were literally doing the same. We all knew it was just bullshit, but it got clicks. So, all of a sudden these Neogaf, 4Chan, Twitter rumours and so on would be blown massively out of proportion. It was sort of absurd and hilarious at the same time.
This continues now, and it’s been going on forever. The big problem is that people lend credibility to certain ‘leakers’ who do end up with some juicy info here and there, or stuff that is found in datafiles. A lot of the rumours packed in there are all just fluffy bullshit people choose to ignore, and then forget about down the line. Rinse and repeat baby.
There has been some interesting leaks in the past though, and you can tell some people do have ties in house, but I imagine that shit gets shut down fast. I’m surprised the companies haven’t resorted to just Targaryen-ing their employees to find out where the leaks are coming from.
Either way, I’m all for the leaks, it’s funny watching everyone get excited over low-res jpegs, word documents with a show lineup on them and all full of titles that you would expect in a romhack.
I don’t even listen to Nintendo leaks. I just wait for an announcement.
Pyoro actually admitted his own track record isn’t perfect but it’s been otherwise accurate despite the vagueness.
Yall should give Midori some love too. Usually just an accurate Atlus/Sega leaker she’s been cooking more lately outside those spheres.
Anything about Nintendo of America acknowledging the Mother series is always false.
This is a terrible topic.
Always believe leaks, it’s more fun that way
How to spot a fake leak:
1. Too much info
2. Popular game
3. Info IS vague
4. Info is NOT vague
don’t forget this too:
if it’s from pyoro, it’s real. if it’s from nin10doland, it’s not.
To be fair, Pyoro is not the *only* Nintendo leaker with a perfect track record. He’s just the most popular and recent one. There were a good few leakers from circa the past decade who had a perfect or near-perfect record, who just don’t post anymore or only ever posted stuff once or twice.
There’s also Midori who has gained a lot of traction over the past year for her perfect record. She mostly has predicted SEGA/ATLUS stuff, but she’s recently come out about Nintendo and Square-Enix news.
Here’s the only tip you need: it’s not true if it’s not an official press release/direct from Nintendo
With that in mind, here are my definitely 100% accurate leaks:
1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Expansion Pass
2. Zelda Wind Waker + Twilight Princess HD collection
3. Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remastered
4. Metroid Prime 4
5. Super Mario 64 2
6. Amiibo 2
7. Super Smash Bros Open World Project (Working title)
8. F-ZERO.2 Birth by Sleep HD Re:Mix
9. Mother 5
10. Nintendo Leak Simulator 2024
11. All Quiet on the Western Front x Yoshi (Working title)
12. Hollow Knight Silksong has been cancelled
How to tell if a direct lake is fake:
No farming sims
No JRPGs you’ve never heard of
Pro tip: just don’t listen or entertain “leaks”. That’s the best way.
These supposed leakers are just making guesses based on already available information, sometimes just making stuff up.
You know its fake when one of the “leaked titles” is a zelda game with an edgy name including words like shadow, ruin or darkness loool
Most fake leakers don’t account for the yearly Just Dance reveal
I think the bottom line is just to ignore all supposed “leaks” unless and until they become verified. That seems more logical than parsing individual leaks against a set of criteria.
Is there any sort of database on all leakers, everything they’ve claimed, and how accurate they are overall? I feel like most every leaker has been lying about everything, but got a few things right, and so a lot of people think they actually know what they’re talking about.
But, I thought Mother 3 was going to be announced at every Direct?
The game you’re hoping for comes out tomorrow.
Basically if it doesn’t come from a red bird it’s fake
The wife of one of my cousin best friend used to work for nintendo, and the one time that we met she told ne that she was working on the Super Mario rpg remake. I was convinced that it was a bullshit story, but in the end not even 6 months later we discovered that it was real.
My point is that leaks are almost always balloney, but once in awhile you get some gold.
You know the gamingleaksandrumours subreddit has a leaker trust list, right?
you mean bloodborne ISNT coming to switch??? ive been lied to!
So it’s got to be just the right amount of vague and specific to pass the legitimacy test?
The only fake leak that is real is “Metroid Prime 5 will release in 2025 with no advertising and no announcement. There is no Metroid Prime 4.”
If it’s from 4chan, it’s fake most likely
Tbh I just like listening to Metroid stuff, fake or not. I’m not believing a thing regarding Metroid Prime 4 unless it’s revealed by Nintendo.
The “screenshots of a Nintendo Direct headed picture listing games and release dates” as if that’s supposed to mean that someone got access to Nintendo’s server and they happened to have that image just sitting there for someone to steal. And they steal nothing else, just that direct image. Every time I see them I just have to laugh at the people posting or reposting it as if it is in ANY way legitimate. Grow up.
Hey guys welcome back to Nin10do land today we have some VERY important information…
Youre lucky I cant read
