We got Legends Arceus (which I very much enjoyed), which was a pseudo open world game. But what would your ideal open world game look like or what elements would it have?
I'll start.
I will say I drew some inspiration from this here: https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-a-breath-of-the-wild-style-open-world-pokemon-game
For me, I would say it is set in an unfamiliar region somewhat in the past. It is a true open world style game similar to the recent Zelda games. Obviously there would be a Pokedex, but filling it out would be more than simply catching the Pokemon. It would also require quests to fill out completely. Each Pokemon could have it's own little sidequest for full completion.
Having Pokemon mounts like in Legends Arceus would be way fun, except it would not be limited to only like 5 Pokemon. Also, actual flying mounts would be a thing, not just slowing descending like in Legends Arceus.
Exploration and discovery would be a big part of the gameplay. Just finding Pokemon in their natural environments would be enjoyable. Like, I'm imagining just climbing a tall, snowy mountain, and at the top just finding a legendary like Articuno. That would be a great way to reward difficult exploration.
HMs wouldn't really be a thing for me. For instance, you could just mount any sufficiently large Pokemon that can learn surf and it would surf on water. Some Pokemon would be able to surf, some could rock climb, etc.
Some other cool things that could just be bonus features:
1. Bring back shadow Pokemon, either as part of the main story or as a major side quest.
2. Incorporate real-time strategy like Pokemon battles, rather than solely turn based. For this one, I'm thinking it could just be one underground arena rather than the entire game like this. Winning in the arena could get you rare items.
Obviously, some of you will have great ideas that I haven't even thought of yet. What are your ideas?
