Having seen how many games or lack of games the two much more powerful consoles have, I think that’s a good idea

This was and still is a great move.

In hindsight, my favorite games are always the ones that are stylized and have fun gameplay. Plus xenoblade has proven that you don’t need high specs to have beautiful graphics and world design. Uraya and Satorl Marsh are still so insanely gorgeous.

In other words, Nintendo will do the same thing they’ve been doing for decades.

  4. As a fan, I love to hear this. As a customer, I am happy to vote with my wallet. The Switch has been such a success for the things I care about in gaming – creativity, immersive stories, fun games, local co-op and a minimum of pay-to-win and ticky-tack microtransactions. I’ll be in line for the successor on day one.

I think this is a good move overall.

However I think it’s important that they balance their desire to create unique experiences with hardware sufficiently powerful for what they want. The Switch in its current state is being out paced by those unique experiences.

TotK is a marquee title and it does not run well on the system. Echoes of Wisdom is the latest that just doesn’t hold up performance wise. Great games with plenty of unique and original ideas, held back by hardware that was realistically outdated at launch.

I mean I just want the next switch to have fast loading, and 60 fps on most games

  7. I had a friend tell me that I’m crazy for paying for a switch because its hardware was “ten years old when it first released.” He didn’t seem to understand that I just liked Nintendo games and didn’t mind that it wasn’t a PS4 Pro.

Trying to compete based on hardware specs is officially biting Sony and Microsoft in the ass – video games look great these days and more power doesn’t deliver that much improvement, especially if devs aren’t willing to utilize it. This statement is nothing new for Nintendo but this is really the right moment for them to double down on that sentiment.

good, nowadays the high specs “game war” hasn’t sense because the people noticed that what really matters in a game is the gameplay and about the graphics I think the developers become good on hide a game graphics with amazing art styles like Persona 5, Tears of the Kingdom, Metaphor, etc..

Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft console offer us great games with great visuals so I don’t think the high specs “game war” has sense as I already said

  10. Don’t care about cutting edge graphics and performance specs. Just give us PS4 Proish 4K visuals and a huge library of varied exclusives, ports, remasters, remakes and backwards compatibility and I’ll keep buying Day One like I have been.

IMO, the game dev shouldn’t focus on game spec war and graphic detail focus. However, Nintendo as a hardware provider should provide good products that could last a decade and provide enough specs for both first and third parties to develop games on that system.

I think having the new switch be as good as ps4 pro should be enough.

  12. Majestic_Electric

Just make them powerful enough to keep third-parties around. We don’t want a return of the Wii U days!

Sounds like they’re setting the stage of an expectation it’s going to be an incredibly underpowered system. Totally fine they aren’t competing with PS and Xbox…they don’t need to, and don’t think anyone expects or really cares to.

But the switch is completely unacceptable at this point, and they really need to deliver a massive improvement on this new system for it to handle years and years of games. To me, it sort of sounds like a cop out.

  14. masterpd85

That fine…. for them. But once again, this is going to hurt 3rd party support.

  15. aaariiieeeeellllll

Miyamoto is either delusional or out of touch. Yes, there is a huge market for video game consumers that prefer high specs and graphics, but the ones that stuck with Nintendo aren’t complaining about the lack of 4K or any of that. I just want to play a Zelda or Pokemon game without the frames being drastically dropped. Make your games compatible with your devices. You say you don’t care about better technology but obviously you’re catering to those people to a fault.

  16. SolidusAbe

still needs to have good specs so games dont run sub 30 fps or forcing players to buy SD cards because the console only has 32GB of storage. they dont need to compete with the ps5 or series x but being too far behind is kinda ass

  17. I don’t think people realize how much of a winning strategy having the *lower* spec console compared to the competition was for Nintendo historically. For example the original Gameboy had comically lower specs than some of the more advanced handhelds out at the exact same time. But those handhelds didn’t take over the world, the Gameboy did. Lower specs meant things like a lower price and longer battery life, which REALLY mattered before rechargeable batteries. Which meant everyone, especially the parents who had to pay for things, preferred it.

  18. AgentWilson413

Understandable however I would still like to not see frame drops on games made FOR the Switch.

  19. People are saying this is good and you don’t need high end graphics to sell well, just make good games…yeah…but we’d also like our games to actually run well and not become a stuttery mess anytime anything is actually happening on screen and to not have a pop in distance of 10 meters…

  20. Round_Musical

They say that but the leaked Switch 2 specs tell a clear story that they didn’t cheap out on it.

  21. Otherwise_Back_2051

i don’t mind them not having their consoles be all “8K, 420 FPS!!!!!” but they do need to stop having it be so underpowered that EVEN THEIR OWN GAMES run like crap, just 1080p, 30-60fps CONSISTENTLY, it really isn’t that hard of an ask, and shouldn’t effect the price because 1080p is ancient in the tech world at this point, it’s not a hard resolution to run anymore, especially with how well Nintendo optimizes their games (because while totk for example didn’t run great, it still ran way better then it had any right to on such old hardware, because the switches hardware was actually being discontinued by the manufactuer when nintendo chose to use it)

  22. and suing the ever living shit out of people

  23. LetItRaine386

I can’t take this sub 30fps shit anymore

  24. evilgrinz

want zelda 60fps in 4k, same graphics is fine.

  25. Nowhereman50

    Unique* content

*a new zelda, kirby, or mario.

  26. Stratis127

That’s cool and all, but please at least make your next system able to run those high spec games.
