Swirlix has adapted to consume sour and bitter fruits, mistaking them for sweets due to its distorted sense of taste. Because the body need sugar and is unable to handle sugary foods, it relies on sour flavors. Its acidic tongue secretes a corrosive substance to extract sour flavors from various materials when food is scarce.
This regional variant is inspired by sour candy and sour cotton candy, with the Poison type representing the acidity. The puff on its head resembles the mushroom cloud of the Warhead candy brand's mascot, Wally Warhead.
