Babe wake up. Switch 2 got delayed to 2028.

PS4 games keep getting made to this day (Metaphor is coming out on PS4 soon) and the console is 11 years old so…

If the Switch successor is backwards compatible and the old console can run the game, many publishers will want to capitalize on that 144 million install base.

“Licensed” games don’t tend to push the state of the art and they have often come out on a system well after it has been replaced in the past so this is quite a logical thing to do and also not a great surprise.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Switch still got light 3rd party support in the 2030s.

well yeah. they make games that target super young kids most of the time and millions of kids own switches.

and lites aren’t gonna get any more expensive when the 2 comes out either.

Their target audience is kids, and they are less likely to get a new release console in mass at the stsrt of the life cicle. It’s a reasonable strategy.

I’m genuinely curious how Nintendo can incentivize developers to make games for the successor console when so many consumers (like myself) are satisfied with Switch and have an enormous backlog.

The jump from GameCube to Wii was enough to make people buy the new console, as was the jump from Wii/Wii U to Switch (to say nothing of NES -> Super NES, Super NES -> N64). Gotta wonder what Nintendo has up their sleeve.

And I’ll be there for every single one of them

I mean we kept getting Just Dance games for Wii until recently

okay but can they fix this one first it runs at like 15fps and the pop in is actually insane, worse than PLA and SV

There is no dedicated handheld for $99-150 anymore for Nintendo to get kids into the ecosystem. Unless they were to give the Switch Lite a price cut and support it well into Switch 2s life. I really feel like they should.

This is going to be the case for most devs I suspect. It’s a similar conundrum as the PS4 and PS5. Why abandon older hardware if it has a massive install base and your game can run on it?

There was a GBA Spongebob game in 2007. Just a few month before the last GBA licensed game which was TMMT. That game, and Creature From The Krusty Krab, are quite impressive looking even by today standards, let alone licensed GBA games.

I feel like this is a quiet confirmation that the successor will have backwards compatibility.

Honestly I could wait until 2028 for a switch 2, the original switch is still fine for another 4 years
