Once again the little sibling of America is left out 🙁

This is so weird?? There’s absolutely no info about what this is at all. Just “sign up and download this software on the 23rd”. My best guess is it has to do with testing crossplay with Switch 2? But I really have no idea what this could be and why they’re being so secretive.

It’s greyed out for me so I can’t sign up, I figure someone will post about it anyway

  4. RefLax22

I’m really curious what this could be, I haven’t seen any believable guesses so far

Edit: My current theory is either some form of game streaming or a new miiverse type app

I hope I can turn my Switch into an Alarm Clock!

  6. SparkyMuffin

I wonder if this has anything to do with the latest “stability” update that bumped Switch up to 19.0.0

  7. SparkyMuffin

Whatever it is, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up in a Direct next week or a standalone video so the play testers don’t “leak” it

Smash Bros 99 using 8/16 bit graphics.

I’m coping but I hope it’s Nintendo DS NSO or a new system

I have never been so devastated to be Canadian

Achievement system? Not sure that would need a play test though

    Online only (stream) GameCube emulator

    Realistic attempt to speculate:
    Virtual link cable for GB/GBA?

Or! Maybe they’re bringing chat features in the form of DS emulation on the service.

  14. So the source code for the page includes this line of text:
    > We recommend enjoying this playtest using TV mode and a wired Internet connection.

If Nintendo are actively recommending wired mode, to me that implies bandwidth and/or latency matter. I’m gonna wildly predict a game streaming service.

Maybe they are trying to increase it’s stability.

It’s likely some form of Cloud streaming service, based on the requirements, along with the text /u/TheWyo got from the page.

Considering this is the time of year that new consoles have been added to Virtual Console, I’m going to guess Gamecube streaming.

A more ambitious guess would be a library of Switch games, both 1st and 3rd party, similar to what PS+ Extra and GamePass offer. We could see older titles, such as Pikmin 1+2, Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Metroid Dread being offered.

I specifically say Splatoon 2 because the Octo Expansion DLC is already an NSO+ perk. This would mostly be a way to give people a way to play it without needing to buy the full version of Splat 2. I have no idea how well multiplayer matches of Splat 2 would be over Cloud servers.

For my wild card guess, I recall a post from awhile ago that Square-Enix was interested in bringing FFXIV to Switch. That game wouldn’t be handheld friendly, considering all the popups and menus that can clutter the screen. A wired connection would be a near requirement as well. The signup page doesn’t state that a 3rd party login is required, so this is unlikely, unless Nintendo is getting dedicated servers in each region.

EDIT: Another idea would be allowing non-friend multiplayer for Virtual console games. It could be especially popular for Mario Kart and Mario Party, which already have global lobbies for their modern equivalents.

Well, it specifically says you need the expansion +, so it might be a new emulator. Maybe they are testing out a DS emulator? I don’t think it will be gamecube and believe that would be with Switch 2.
