Pokemon Go

Niantic’s newest predatory tactic is malicious and indefensible.

Keep your children away from this game. This might be your next Master Ball moment.

Someone else on r/TheSilphRoad mentioned it’s a box because it just doubles the items from above, but only three items + XP fit in that upgrade screen, so two of them (XL candy and Premier balls) are just added to a box.

    Pretty bad UI design IMO

Oh good, I just clicked through to catch and saw something and thought “did I earn a mystery gift or something?” Glad to see it’s the usual bullshit.

These practices are getting out of hand. I’ve also run into multiple companies in the EU, who don’t list everything people agree to after signing a contract with them.

It’s only a matter of time before jail time is issued, and laws get way more stringent, all because companies keep pushing what they can get away with.

They have way too much power now, and it’s time to put them in a tighter leash.

Niantic getting so scammy now awadays. Poor insight and wasted game mechanics. Sigh.. why don’t they listen to the player base. Diablo 3 was downright bad but got fixed in Reaper of Souls…

  5. I wonder if the “and more” is not against EU law? As it sounds like gambling/lootbox. That all you get is double the normal rewards, which is just measly anyway, is not clear from this text.

I mean, we’re already not able to play the new pokemon tcg mobile thingy, so I guess that niantic really wants to get banned in the EU as well.

If you click it you can see what you get before you buy it

its definitely messed up and there needs to be a system-wide toggle for allowing IAP for each app on your phone because companies will always try to skirt regulations and restrictions because of capitalism. I dont know whether google, apple or samsung does this, and its not fair for them to have to have this feature, but companies like niantic will always take the predatory approach if it makes them even a penny.

Can somebody explain to a newbie why this is a bad thing? What is op referring to with “master ball moment”?

we call these ” Dark Patterns ” in the UX/UI world and its gross

Have people actually needed the 10 extra balls?? Has something actually fled out of a premier Ball for these raid things??

It could be anything. It could even be a boat.

Daily reminder that the only way to fix the game is to uninstall and wait.

I’m always so scared to be randomly tapping and not notice 😭 I still need to get used to this screen…

Except you can click on it to find out exactly what it is. It’s one of the least predatory things they’ve done

Haven’t played Pokemon go in a long time. Their practices turned me away a long time ago. The potential was there but the greed was too strong. The best way to kick back is stop paying/playing. Pokemon sleep is great and pokerogue is also pretty great as free alternatives for a poke mobile.
