Ponryo is based on J-Horror "long dark haired girl" ghosts, specifically, Sadako from Ringu. The name Ponryo is a portmanteau of 'pond' and 'onryo', the name of the aforementioned type of spirit Sadako and Kayako from Ringu and Ju-On are based upon!
Tried to be artsy with this and sketched out Ponryo onto fabric… Then I made a fakemon card out of it!
