I’m glad that I’ll finally be able to play this game myself. I never had it for N64 (Back in 2000 I got one choice for Christmas, this game or Paper Mario. I ended up choosing the latter) and I’ve never had an Xbox either, so this is my first chance to actually play the game instead of watching Youtube walkthroughs of it.

I thought it wasn’t dropping until tomorrow! I am pumped!

  3. Jedi_Council_Worker

Keen to resubscribe and play through both Banjo’s but I might wait to see if they keep the momentum going first and add a few others from rare like conker’s and diddy kong racing.

  4. Emasraw

This was my 2nd Nintendo 64 game and I loved it so much!

  5. I personally don’t think this game has aged as well as Banjo-Kazooie. BK is a classic and still super fun to this day. This game is still fun, don’t get me wrong, but focuses too much on mini games and some of the later levels are super confusing and really needed a map. Witchyworld is a classic though and very memorable.

How tf have we gotten two banjos before DK64???

  7. sludgezone

Enjoy it, Witchyworld is probably the best level in the series!

  8. Gogo726

I’m glad it was released this month. Nintendo is giving us that Oct Tooie

  9. zetcetera

I always liked Tooie more than the original (which is still great) but I don’t know if that’s ’cause I was a dumb kid or if I’d have the same opinion today.

Been playing it for an hour now and it feels great! Never played the Rare Replay version so it feels nice to play Tooie without lag!

  11. Intelligent-Union188

Damn not seeing it yet on my system

  12. ArcadiaJ

This game’s commercial got me into doing trying to get into game making for a living, still working about it, but I don’t regret pursuing it

  13. Silly_Ad2345

This game is way bigger than the first one but it is 100% worth pushing through

  14. Jimmythedad

This was the first new game my dad bought me. I need to get nso to play this again!

Love this game. It’s a bit more back tracky and slow paced than the OG, but it’s still so good.

Also, Canary Mary is the Devil. Absolute 100% Lucifer.

  16. BobDaWaka

You can’t exit multiplayer menu…Idk why….anyone experiencing this issue?

  17. VisibleFun9999

Finally. Something on NSO we actually asked for

  18. megasean3000

Not played it yet. Is it harder than Banjo-Kazooie? That game was hard to 100% for me.

For anyone playing this game for the first time, be aware that Banjo-Tooie is very different to Banjo-Kazooie, despite their core similarities. If you go in expecting the same kind of game in a different setting, you’re going to have a bad time.

Whereas the first game is a tightly-designed cute little platformer like Super Mario 64, Tooie is a sprawling, epic adventure closer to Zelda or Metroid. There are way fewer collectibles, and much more emphasis on exploration, puzzle solving, combat, and mini games. The worlds are huge and deeply interconnected. You *won’t* be able to do everything in each world on your first visit, and many tasks require the use of moves or characters from later worlds.

Where the game shows its age is the general lack of guidance, or a way to keep track of what you need to do. Grunty Industries is particularly notorious for being the level many players get stuck on how to even get inside. Don’t be afraid to use a guide to get through the more obtuse sections of the game!

Still, there’s a really fun story here, fantastic variety in the worlds, thrilling bosses, and great humour as always. But the game is a very different beast to the first one and may not be to everyone’s tastes.

Why no Diddy Kong racing? Rare are obviously happy with having their games on NSO, Nintendo owns the rights to the Kongs….so why no DKR yet? I can’t be alone in thinking that it’s THE karting game on the N64. MK64 was definitely not Mario Kart’s finest hour….something that really jumps out at you when you replay it directly after playing the original.

I vaguelly recall the trustworthy (and hilarious) “N64 Magazine” finding Tooie a bit dissappointing, so I never bought it back in the days. Would be interesting to try it now for the first time.

  22. Darkgnaw

Finally! Used to play the multiplayer a bunch.. the shootout modes were a nice little nod to Goldeneye.

  23. Flarkenstein

Is it worth trying if you didn’t beat the first one? Whenever I tried playing the first one I got kinda bored halfway through and stopped.

  24. MidnaMune

Yay Banjo Tooie is one of my favorite games of all time. So happy to play it again! As for which Banjo is technically better, it depends on each individuals taste I think. If you like platformers more you will probably enjoy the first one better, if you like adventure-like games you will probably like the 2nd one better. As for me the first one will always have a special place in my heart, but I have to admit I like tooie better.

  25. annoyanon

I love this game. Probably just a fantasy but hope the multiplayer works online

  26. TheCookieButter

When I was younger I had a dream about certain areas about this game. The hole in the wall near spiral mountain, the Gruntilda painting being torn open. I spent so long trying to get those things to happen in Banjo Kazooie.

It wasn’t until 2008 I realised it was Banjo Tooie, I learnt because I had just heard about Nuts and Bolts. We had rented it from Blockbuster back when it came out and I forgot. I bought it on Amazon and played it a through several times since. Good times.

  27. Daedalus0451

Oh man, it’s time for some death matches in Ordinance Storage with my buddy. If you’re playing multiplayer, don’t forget that Jinjos have the same short height buff that odd-job did in GoldenEye!

  28. Eastwood-8

Im still stucc on the first one. I got lost so many times trying to find the next level to explore. Just gonna end up buying a Prima Guide for it 😂

  29. camman0077

Very strange doing the jiggywiggy puzzles with no lag

  30. Iamamancalledrobert

I was completely obsessed with Banjo Tooie as a child to the point of designing multiple potential levels for a sequel, but— I’d be hard pressed to say it’s very fun.

Playing it now, bits of it feel almost bureaucratic. Do you have the Drill Bill form? No, and you can’t get it while you’ve taken out the Detonator. Please return it before collecting the form. Then you do, Drill Bill a rock, and inside is a thing that requires a Detonator. And then you scream

  31. KingDaDeDo

Anyone figured out how to turn on wide screen mode?

  32. reyntime

One of the best games on the N64! Playing it now and it’s just as good as I remember. Here’s hoping for a remake or Threeie sometimes soon!

  33. Ninja108Zelda

Been a long time since I’ve played this, can’t wait!

  34. Beginning_Return_508

One of my favorite games from the Nintendo 64. I’m glad some people will finally get to play it.

  35. Historyguy1

Should’ve patched in Stop n’ Swop.
