What am I doing wrong?

I know incident hit every throw but over these two encounters I hit at least a handful or more of decedent throws with a golden raspberry. This dude fled both times. What should I be doing instead? Am I missing something obvious? Seems nuts that I can get excellent throws with a golden berry and still get nothing.
