This is really bad news for Platinum, such a shame, wth happened, are they done for?

Wasn’t Babylon’s Fall their only big failiure?

  3. BebeFanMasterJ

So glad Nintendo owns Astral Chain. Just poach Taura and commission him for the sequel.

*execs look sweatily at a button marked Revengeance 2*

Platinum games is one if the few developers that know action/ hack n slash genre. But lately they are dropping the ball.

Every Platinum game I’ve played tends to feel a bit hit or miss. Bayonetta series was good, but not without glaring issues, Astral Chain was limited by graphics and had some janky combat, and Babylon’s Fall just flat out flopped.

They haven’t really found their mark that keeps making them stable income. Not surprising that they’re having some issues.

I would be sad about this except we got Okami 3 out of it thanks to the director leaving and refounding Clover.

To me they peaked at Bayonetta 2 and Revengeance. So 2012-2014, after that there were a couple of cool ones but nothing extraordinary

To be honest. Most of their portfolio of games just flatout bad. True, they made great games such as MGR Revengence, Bayo and Nier but they also made some stinkers. Star Fox Zero was hampered by motion controls, Nickelodeon’s TMNT and Legend of Korra were bad and Babylon’s Fall is much worse.

It’s a shame PG is losing some key developers.

I predicted it’s dying the moment kamiya left the company

Last September 25, 2023, **Hideki Kamiya** announced that he would be leaving the studio on October 12

They will probably just become a small support studio to Nintendo, like when Brownie Brown studios got turned into 1-Up studio.

I’ve always held the belief that Nintendo should buy them out. But it’s been over a decade now of Nintendo refusing to transition into true hd gaming. At this point we’d be better off with Sony buying Platinum and giving us 4k games that will make stellar blade look like a fan project.

Platinum is not the same since that Tencent investment and announcement of a bunch of projects.

I love Platinum games, the people there were very talented. But I always thought they tried to chew something bigger than they were capable of. Not to mention the PR nightmare they went with Bayonetta 3.

  15. RayMinishi

With a new studio called Clovers and under his director role. Id say the hack and slash genre is fine

Just means Bayonetta and Astral Chain may struggle or not happen anymore.

Partially explains Kamiya working with Capcom again for Okami 2

I remember when people called me crazy when I cited what happened with Babylon’s Fall as to why Cygames ended up deciding to remake Granblue Fantasy Relink in their own studio instead of having Platinum Games finish it.

Got people unaware, Relink was in development at the same time as Babylon’s Fall, Cygames already invested a lot with Platinum Games at that point so having to cancel that partnership felt rather extreme, until we ended up seeing what happened to Babylon’s Fall. The game isn’t even being sold anymore, whereas Relink ended up doing well.

It also paints the difference between CyGames and Square Enix in this regard since there’s no way Square did not see the same shit during BF’s Alpha phase and not get bothered with how bad it was. If they weren’t asleep on the wheel, or cared about their IP, they would’ve done the same thing as Cygames.

  18. Final-Criticism-8067

If Sega owns the IP for Bayonetta, can’t they just go to Kamiya himself and license it to him?

  19. JohnkaiImpact

Honestly after Babylons Fall it kinda needs to happen

Clovers seems to be born from the ashes

  20. Negative_Pilot8786

All their games were crap, who cares

  21. TornadoJ0hns0n

Sad to see. These guys put out many of my all time favorites. A company like them should’ve been thriving but they’ve always seemed to be in a tough spot. Whether it was clover studios, platinumgames, or tango. I just hope the new CLOVERS Inc will find success along with machine head works, Kamuy, and UNSEEN

  22. At least we get Okami Sequel.

And maybe Godhand somehow. Kamiya have some hands in that too right?

Now we need to list all the Kamiya lead project during him time in Capcom befitting of revival

  23. yumYOSHIyum

Their start of decline and miss management was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, which they even agree was shit and never should have been made, but also Transformers, though was slightly received well then the legend of korra, Bayonetta Origins, Star Fox Zero/Guard too name but a few. This studio works better when creating fresh IP (Bayonetta/Vanquish and Astral Chain, Neir) just over the top action/ hack n slash. I hope they bounce back or get bought by somebody to redirect the ship in a better path. 🫤🤞

  24. planetarial

Its a pity but they had a lot of poor selling games and couldn’t keep going for forever

  25. quinnly

At least they got to wrap up Bayonetta’s story. Might not have been what everyone wanted, but they ended it on their own terms.

  26. ItsAllSoup

Bummer, Cereza and the Lost Demon rocked my socks, but I feel like the only one who played it

  27. Icalivy

Yk what… Platinum can go away now and I wouldn’t care, I used to love them. Bayo 2 was good, so was NieR, Cereza and the Lost Demon, and Astral Chain but here are the list of sins

    – they don’t own ANY good IP except w101. Nintendo can make astral chain, Sega can make Bayonetta, and Square Enix can make NieR. We’re missing out on nothing.

    – they’re making robot games IDC Abt instead of working on character action

    – everyone’s leaving the company so they can’t be bought out for talent either lol

    – Babylons fall sucked and yet they still wanna do more live service/mobile games ew

    – scale bound got cancelled, and you’re telling me astral chain 2 got cancelled? Then IDC! Because astral chain 2 is all I want from them

    – they ruined Bayo 3 with the multiverse so I don’t want Bayonetta 4. 3 wasn’t the enemies, setting, gameplay etc that I like from Bayonetta

    – management at the company sucks apparently

    – they have a hard on for asynchronous gameplay for some reason, with astral chain, bayo 3, Cereza, and star fox all having it like can they not just make a normal game

    – NieR Replicant combat was done fine by Toylogic. Square doesn’t need Platinum

    – they keep making annoying April fools jokes but idk they fell off

    – how did they work on star fox and it flopped lol like what

  28. So does this mean Yoko Taro is doing nothing atm?
