An incredibly enjoyable experience. Music alone makes this games worth it. The fact that the combat is great is just a bonus!

As someone who loves JRPGs, is octopath traveller hard? A few days ago I lost so hard in the first fight I thought it was supposed to be a scripted loss

I don’t like Octopath as much as others do, but my play through had one of the most memorable RPG moments I’ve experienced, solely because of my own carelessness. I shifted jobs and skills around prior to fighting one of the secret bosses, and accidentally left counter attack on my mage, which does virtually no damage and is pointless for that job type. I spent a good 30-40 minutes in the fight and my entire party was wiped except for the mage. I knew it was over because the boss held the next few turns, but that counter attack finished the boss off with a sliver of health left. I was in shock after that happened – so lucky.

Well, that’s outstanding for a series with only two games, and especially a JRPG one.

    JRPGs don’t sale that much. As a comparison here’s [Xenoblade Chronices,](https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Xenoblade_Chronicles#:~:text=As%20of%20June%202023%2C%20the,This%20includes%20Xenogears%20and%20Xenosaga.) [Fire Emblem,](https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Fire_Emblem) [Tales of,](https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Tales) and [SMT/Persona](https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Megami_Tensei)

All have existed for more than one or multiple decades and have been unable or barely able to break the 10 million barrier until the more recent entries started to sell better than the rest of the series combined. Definitely marks a trend of JRPGs becoming more popular overall.

Does part 2 integrate the characters stories better than the first one?

I love the Bravely Default series and had been excited about playing Octopath for years. Recently finally had the time, I love the art style and what the game stands for, but unfortunately I just couldn’t get past the first couple hours, I trust the battle system hits its stride later, but in the beginning each time a random encounter triggered it felt like a health sponge where I just attacked and healed over and over. Especially compared to how accelerated BD’s battles are it felt sluggish. Characters weren’t really doing it for me either. If I was younger and less busy I’d be willing to give it more time, but with a job I just don’t have the luxury of spending hours waiting for something to get good. Happy to see that the genre as a whole and people involved are getting the flowers they deserve though.

(lol getting downvoted for saying it’s a cool game and I’m glad it succeeded even though it’s not for me 👍🏼)

Octopath Traveler 2 is probably my favorite classic JRPG ever, it’s amazing in every aspect. Plus it took me 4 hours to beat the last boss, it was the most stressful and fulfilling event of my gamer life. I’ll never forget it.

It was one of my first Switch games, and I was extremely disappointed. It’s not a bad game by any means, just not for me.
