I started with game last year September…from 85 people I have as friends in Pogo I only know 2 from that 85 list
On top of that I work in Norway and my home is in Croatia(1895 km ,the road distance is 2346.5 km) so far I only did 2 trades and thats it….I dont get why is trading so limited at all if they already have the option to trade
If this would be unlimited distance that would be huge W…but its Niantic and I dont have high hopes it will come in the game

Definitely would say it makes you lucky friends and not long distance trading. Besides, how would a person communicate to one another on what they want to be traded? and when? Lot of these lucky friends are random people I'm sure. Ninantic wants to bring people together and this would contradict the whole goal they're intending. Don't get me wrong the whole remote raids thing is one of those too. Plus raiding in person ive had people send invites to me I've never even seen either. If they would want to introduce a lucky trade long distance I feel like a pop open box for messaging would be implemented. Although I'm sure, Ninantic wouldn't want to do that. Either that or maybe introduce a GTS system like pokemon home has. You can throw up multiple pokemon that you're looking for and a person can accept one of them. Or just type in box what you want.
If none of that is possible just rename your current buddy what you want. Rename your buddy your phone number. Lmao.

This was always make to best friends lucky friends don't where you get long distance trading from you should actually read it instead of repeating what others say because they are wrong they more likely to push people to make campfire groups for that.
I have several lucky friends, but trading is not possible due to distance. Seems stupid to have it in options if not applicable.

Nah, this is not long distance, obviously it's you being able to guarantee a lucky friend. And then you'd need to be clsoe to that person to do the trade, so I think for now it's just a "guaranteed lucky trade" thingy
