I’m not really any good at mimicking the Pokémon art style so I’m not even gonna try (that hard, I tried a bit). I wanted to make a the starters kinda weird, so I gave them weird type combos and semi-strange designs. My water starters are orca-based with the water-normal type combo, for example. Now, there isn’t anything inherently draconic about Periopterror but it’s ancient, powerful and has several features which are relatively draconic (flight, sharpness, elemental infusion).
The shinies are based on the bright colours of scorpions and spiders under UV light. Ofc we don’t actually know if eurypterids (ancient sea scorpions) glowed like modern arachnids but I don’t think that’s particularly important.
If you’re curious about sizes, Skolyf is about 2’6 long at 40 pounds, Skorpfoli is 4 feet long but also about 40 pounds and Periopterror is about 5’10 and 90 pounds
