Mega Pokemon are confirmed for Pokemon Legends Z-A, however they are not back at their full strength as it has been confirmed that Pokemon will not be returning with their abilities. Effectively making certain Mega Pokemon USELESS. So here are the most useless Mega Pokemon in Legends Z-A.

  1. I'm glad that Gardevoir is still a solid Mega with the state increase despite her the removal of the extra boost to her fairy attack power through the strong Normal Moves.

  2. Why are people so upset that a Legends game doesn't follow the core mechanics of the mainstream games.

    First they're upset about the starters (which valid), next the graphics (since when was pokemon supposed to look realistic?), and now no abilities (bud this is a legends game, Arceus didn't have abilities either).

    That's where Pokemon Champions comes in, they'll all the Megas with their abilities in there for competitive. A Legends games is about having fun with whatever whacky idea Gamefreak can come up with without affecting the mainstream games/competitive formats.

  3. Mawile and Heracross really has awesome megas and you're pretending almost EVERY megas will be nerfed on a game we know nothing about.

  4. The lack of abilities was already weird in LG, but in PLA I could somewhat understand as this was early in the world's history so stuff like abilities and held items weren't really known. However doing this in the setting of ZA makes no sense as its the future or at least round modern times, when abilities are well known. Unless they do something like with Regigigas were the ability's effects still occur, then this feels like a completely unnecessary exclusion.

  5. It just doesnt make sense for them to not have abilities. PLA not havung abilities makes sense in-universe since people harely knew anything about pokemon at a base level, let alone abilities. ZA takes place in the present/near-future, and obviously we had abilities in gen 6.

Just to throw in some defense of mega pidgeot, it's unclear how no guard would work in the ZA format where attacks have to be timed and aimed, especially since No Guard also makes it impossible for moves to miss Pidgeot as well. I'm really curious to see how the varying accuracy of moves in the core games is reflected in ZA–will hydro pump be harder to aim than water gun?

  7. Losing Mega Launcher might even be a good thing for Mega Blastoise. It gives us as players a chance to go crazy with its move set and not being limited to moves powered up by Mega Launcher. Sure we could have done that anyway, but we would have a dead ability. This way, the other Megas around it are nerfed and Mega Blastoise becomes more versatile! Good for me, because Mega Blastoise is my favorite Mega… Now picture if Blastoise keeps Shell Smash on its move set. It has never been able to use Shell Smash and Mega Evolve in the same game before.

  8. Im not really a fan of the new combat cause it’s very obviously not gonna be transferred to the main series games which I wish would happen like imagine a perfected version of the strong and quick style system in sv that could’ve been really cool

  9. Too bad if no abilities
    Imagine Mega Charizard Y setting up Drought
    Then timer makes it base Charizard while sun is still up and then can do Sun boosted, Solar Panel/Blaze Boosted, STAB boosted Fire attacks all on its own

  10. To be fair speed boost would HAVE to be reworked anyways cause of the real time battles

    Also WTF are C+ moves and will they fix this?

  11. If Legends Z-A takes after Legends Arceus by having a sheer lack of Competative Compatability, then to be really honest about it all then lists like these are basically useless.

    A lot of this list focuses on (if not entirely on) the Mega's use in the Competative Scene in reference to their Abilities. Since Z-A might follow Arceus in being a game that isn't used for Competative at all then judging any pokemon, mega, or other based entirely on it's Competative Viability is pretty much just entirely useless.

  12. I would likento point out that before Return abd Foresight were removed from the game, Lopunny was actually really good. Maybe not competitive in PVP, but it was still really good against almost everything in regular gameplay.

  13. Wait…Why are we lamenting that mega pokemon MAY not have abilities?
    First of all, it's not even confirmed.
    Second of all, this is a legends game. You're not gonna be able to play against other people.
    Third of all, if there are no abilities, who's to say, if they don't make there are different benefit for mega evolving? Like whatever the "C+" means in the battle UI.
    Doesn't champions have mega evolution anyway? We're still gonna be able to use parental bond Mega Kanga, huge power Mega Mawile, etc. Regardless, if ZA has the them or not.

  16. We don’t actually know enough to be truly certain that ability’s are gone they could’ve just be avoiding showing it to show they work a little bit differently to cater to the new battle system seriously what’s with Pokémon fans and jumping to baseless conclusions

Are you really vomplaining about competitive viability for legends, did you forget how in pla you vould get an arceus plate that automatically swapped judgements type to what the opponent was weak against, or the whole fast and strong attack that can allow someone to attacl twice in one turn…

    I dont think balance is a concern for these games

  18. Why are you looking at this from a competitive viewpoint? This is a LEGENDS game; it doesn't have online battles and OH YEA, the battles aren't even turn-based. Like bruh, if you just took a few seconds to look at the trailer, it is clear that Mega Pokémon are still going to have a clear advantage in battles because their hitboxes are just bigger. In a game where the core mechanic will be dodging opponent's moves and aiming your own moves, having temporary much larger hitboxes is gonna be huge, even without abilities. Can't keep looking at it as the same game system when it CLEARLY isn't the same system. I mean, from what we see in the trailer, depending on our movement skills and the type of Pokémon we have, we could go a whole battle without taking any damage. At that point, who cares if you can't call the weather, or have a boost in power for your moves, or doubling your attack stat. All you'll even need is the base stat total boost and the larger hitboxes, definitely not going to be "useless" in Legends Z-A.
