I’m thinking that as well, AZ must be A rank and we fight him and Eternal Floette, but then here’s another question, AZ does not have a Jirachi, how is he going to grant wishes, is it Wizard of Oz style or does he have an ultimate weapon on his sleeve?

imagine if as you get higher in the ranks, you battle more recognizable trainers from the original XY. like for C it could be Clemont, S for Shauna, K for Korrina etc, and then maybe rank A is AZ himself

LOL, I think folks need to not take the name scheme too seriously.
I don’t think it’ll matter until the top ranks a-c or so. It also looks like the pivotal trainer of will have the latter based on the battles having varying levels between the lettered names.
AZ or Alain or whoever will be at the top. Clement could appear, but he’d be around Rank C if I had to guess.
Doubt they’d have too many surprise characters. Definitely unlikely to have any Champions. Like guys, the MC is a tourist who’s basically there on vacation. Would be the quickest protag to go from untrained to Champion level (plus, the name has to have the same letters across languages if they’re pivotal—it wouldn’t make sense for any former Champion ranked trainer to be below A, really).
It’s small little details like this that show me that, contrary to popular belief, Game Freak does care.

People keep forgetting that the letter system will never work. It’s a Japanese game ffs. The characters names are not the same and don’t even use the alphabet. So no clemont will not be C and red will not be R.
