Trump’s new tariffs on exports to U.S could push Nintendo Switch 2 price higher

Not trying to get political but I thought it was important to the price discussion. Some insiders are saying the new tariffs could push the price upwards of 550 dollars. Switches are primarily made in China, which now has a 51% tariff and Vietnam, which has a 46% tariff.

People who voted and supported Trump should not be complaining. They got what they want and dragged all of us in trade wars

  2. $550 😭

Instead of playing games I’ll be forced to watch a YouTube let’s play for free then

  3. Is it possible that these prices ARE the tariff prices that Nintendo insulated themselves with before knowing the details Trump would announce? I know the prices are pretty much the same in other countries rn but maybe that was to avoid alienating their US market?

This is what happens when the country elects D- minus type minds to office

It’s much easier to announce a high price at launch vs telling us a price and then saying, oops nevermind it’s gonna be $600. I think the current $$450 price tag is the inflated price because of the tariffs

Explain to me how tariffs make America stronger. Explain literally how Americans will magically begin manufacturing switch 2, and making clothes that you can sell for 3 dollars and make a profit

I really doubt they will change the price after already releasing an official one. I think they’d rather sell at a loss like other console makers and make it back in game sales and NSO

As far as reasons to hate him go, more expensive video games isn’t exactly high on my list.

  9. Welp, that’s what they voted for. Hope they’re enjoying LIBERATION DAY!

  10. I do recall nintendo saying some months ago that they were “preparing for tarriffs”, so these prices might just be some early foresight by nintendo, and it’s affecting other countries since of course nintendo is not gonna make stuff cheaper in the uk compared to the us

Just gonna straight up say f anyone that voted for Cheeto lord, double if you’re moaning about higher priced games.

This ought to make gamers really hate Trump, right?

  13. I’m tired of finding out when I never fucked around 🙁

Gonna be honest, especially since Japanese units are reportedly ~ $330 USD worth of yen, I think them being 450 is due primarily to Nintendo prepping for this.

I’m glad my switch is still doing well. I’m going to hang onto it until it can’t anymore

Can’t even try to lay low with games for my own sanity like I wanted to after the election, this country sucks.

I see a lot of copium in this thread. no way those that are the tariff prices considering the shit show that was announced today. maybe there’s a small buffer but nothing even close to what’s announced. Anyone who voted for Trump is a fucking idiot, we told you what was going to happen

Oh hai from Australia! We will take those YEN to AUD prices please, would love a Switch 2 for that.

You can’t avoid politics, especially when a moron wants to collapse the world economy.

  20. I thought Switches were mostly made in Vietnam at this point. But it’s gonna suck having to deal with this for a while.

Blame on US and those who elect Trump. What a joke country electing this clown.

This has been my arguement all day, and I think that’s why the second half of the presentation felt slightly uneven and it felt like some details were missing. I am not happy about the prices, but I also know that this was a potential consequence a long long time ago during the 2024 election season. That being said, I do wish Nintendo would be a little more transparent about this topic in particular, to at least ease some of our worries in the midst of all the looming uncertainty.

  23. The initial high price is likely anticipation of this too. If they have to move manufacturing to the US, we will all have to pay for it. People need to stop blaming Nintendo for this and need to blame the American conservatives who voted for it.

  24. Ah yes, this will however **finally** bring the price of eggs back down!

    Right? Right? 😂

I bet Nintendo’s original goal was a $400 console but put it to $450 in order to absorb some the shock from tariffs. Nintendo isn’t one to normally sell their consoles at a loss but I don’t see them ever going $500

  26. All of this speculation seems to assume that the folks running Nintendo are clueless morons who in no way anticipated all of this. That’s a bit of a stretch.
