Nintendo

Do you think Nintendo will make a Switch 2 version without a dock?

I saw an interview where Doug Bowser said that people who can't afford a Switch 2 should continue to play Switch 1, but I don't understand why they can't just sell Switch 2 systems without the dock. They sell the dock for $110, so that means they could probably sell a Switch 2 bundle with no dock for $350, right? Even $360 or $375 wouldn't be a horrible price.

I think Nintendo would be shooting themselves in the foot not selling a Switch 2 for as low as they can possibly make it, and axing the dock would make for a steep discount and room for consumers to upgrade by buying a dock in the future if they want to.

I get he couldn't just announce a new SKU in the interview then and there but he should've said something like "We are looking into ways that Nintendo can make the Switch 2 more affordable for consumers with lower income, but for now though the original Switch is still being supported for the future."

Thank you for reading my little rant.

The dock is half the gimmick. A dock-less Switch 2 will be the ‘lite’ model 3 years from now

  2. That’s not how it works. The dock is not $110 of the total price. the dock is priced that way independently because it is an accessory and the profit margins are higher on accessories than they are games and consoles. Sure, eventually we’ll see a switch 2 lite without a dock.

Willing to bet we get a screen less switch 2. Ala PS Vita TV.

I mean, we very well may see something akin to the Switch Lite for the Switch 2 that’ll be cheaper, but it’s hard to say when or how much it’ll cost. I imagine it’ll be minimum 1 year out but probably longer

  5. The dock isn’t going to knock $110 off the price.

Seems highly likely as far as the product goes.

But I think dock prices have always been absurd and dockless would not be $110 off…

To be honest, I would like that. My and my little will both buy a switch 2 and we don’t need two docks (we both buy the switch 1 with docks and one of them is always collecting dust), since we live in the same house. It is kind of frustating that Nintendo is kinda losing a market (families) by forcing every person to by a dock when they don’t need it.

Personally I’d rather have a Switch 2 with no battery or screen.

It’s more likely that we get a switch 2 lite

You could always sell your dock after purchase. Lots of people are willing to buy a second standalone dock. I would definitely buy another!

  11. Don’t confuse retail price for the cost of manufacturing. The Switch 2 dock doesn’t cost _anywhere near_ $110 for them to produce, so removing it wouldn’t cut the price by nearly that much.
