  1. tl;dr Switch 2 GameCube controller doesn’t have all the modern buttons but will work on non-GameCube classic games on the Switch 2, also won’t work on Switch 1.

Hopefully this puts to rest all the churnalism articles misquoting or misreading the fine print from the UK video (the same fine print on the Switch 1 N64 controller).

The only buttons it will be missing is select and left and right stick buttons.

You can probably do a lot with it

It’s a bit of a shame Switch 2 controllers evidently can’t be used on Switch 1 at all.

Interesting that it wouldn’t work on Switch 1? Isn’t it just Bluetooth?

Do we expect it to work on PC?

I’m more curious if using an actual gamecube controller with the usb adapter from Smash will work

I found 2 black Gamecube controllers at Goodwill for $3 each. Held on to them for a few years and looks to be coming in handy now.

    >We also asked if the triggers on this particular wireless controller were analogue, but did not get a response about this.

Insane that this still hasn’t been confirmed.

Can anyone who was at a preview event at least say whether they felt analog? You’d probably be able to tell in F-Zero.

Any word yet if the GC controller adapter for Wii U and Switch 1 will work with the Switch 2?

I am so happy Nintendo is finally acknowledging the Gamecube’s existence. I pray we are entering a Gamecube era where games like Air Riders and other Gamecube bangers come to life as sequels on Switch 2 💜

  10. why would they add a L1 but not a select or right stick ones?

They should have made a version of this controller with all the extra features of the pro controller.

But nope. Because they got too high on success with the switch 1, and got complacent and lazy.

  12. Got the SNES controller – unresponsive slow and often I thought it was off. Something to do with Bluetooth low energy.

So its going to be impossible to run in straight lines in Animal Crossing due to the hexagonal joystick well?

  14. I just hope smash recognizes it as a gamecube controller

  15. I imagine 8bitdo will cover the gap with a cheaper, better, more fully-featured alternative.

I really wish they’d made a symmetrical ZL button and added the other buttons, I would absolutely love to just have a GCN pro controller

The existence of this controller pisses me off as it reminds me that Nintendo, again, didn’t put analog triggers on its main console.

And yet they announced it with at least three GC games that use them (fzero, mario sunshine, luigi’s mansion).

Like cmon, why is it so complicated? Everyone else is doing it. Did they really decided to skip on it and ruin the experience for most of the players just to slightly boost the sales of those hard-core fans that will spend money on this controller?

I will be more annoyed if it *does* have analog triggers. Because that means they have software support, and still chose not to include it. This makes playing F-Zero a couch only experience if you want the authentic experience, which defeats the entire freaking point of the switch. So stupid. You can have analog triggers that are pressure sensitive, PS3 face buttons were actually pressure sensitive analog forever ago. They could have figured this out.
