"Nemo me impune lacessit…"
Some say the town of Old Limpet and its surrounding area are haunted. Who could blame them, when Old Limpet's centuries-old houses and gloomy meadows provide such prime habitat for Dark-and Ghost-type Pokémon? Yesterday we met Jugglet, the oblivious, foolish toad Pokémon and its evolutions. Today, we've discovered a Pokémon that seems intent on following it and bringing a long, bitter feud to an end…
Dex Entries:
Gartamask, the Vengeful Pokémon. Gartamask is always watching Jugglet, boiling with hatred for the Pokémon that once laughed at its expense.
Retribite, the Vengeful Pokémon; evolves from Gartamask at Lv 20. Retribite watched Frester juggling for a group of Pokémon one day, and pulled it aside after the show to give its congratulations. Its poison is developing, as well as its plan…
Montreserp, the Avenged Pokémon; evolves from Retribite starting at Lv 35 with a Frester in the party. Montreserp evolved after completing its plans of revenge, giving Frester a bite poisonous enough to turn Frester's body to stone. It can now live in peace after getting its revenge.
Origins and Data:
Montreserp and its pre-evolutions are based on the character of Montresor in Edgar Allan Poe's story The Cask of Amontillado, as well as the snake biting a foot on his family's coat of arms. I included trowel-like shapes somewhere in all of the evolutions' designs to reference how he encased Fortunato in a wall of brick and mortar, as well as a boot shape on the tails of the latter two stages. Montresor also wears a carnival mask in the story, and so all of this line also have mask-like scales forming around their eyes. I also referenced the story of Medusa a bit in these designs, being serpents associated with turning things to stone. Rather than its gaze, though, Montreserp turns other Pokémon to stone with its venom.
