Something that's been effectively forgotten was that when the Switch 1 came out there was a lot of mass-hysteria about things that were just outright not true.
For one, there were people claiming that their Switch arrived bent. People were posting pictures of their allegedly bent Switches that just… didn't show that they were bent.
But people were going absolutely crazy about the idea that Switches were bent, taking pictures on tables that showed maybe a microscopic gap, or taking pictures with obvious fisheye lens camera lens distortion claiming that their Switch was bent.
This of course led to YouTube picking up on the idea that Switches were bent.
Similarly there was an outrage that the docks were bent and were scratching people's Switches.
People were posting pictures of their Switches claiming that they had their screens scratched by the dock when obviously they were just dirty.
People started making fabric covers for their docks and doing a "penny test" by sliding a penny into the dock to prove it was getting tighter towards the bottom (a test that all Switch docks actually fail, as they're slightly tapered.)
Reggie even went on to make a statement that no one was complaining to customer service about this and it wasn't a real problem.
Again, this is why we’re encouraging consumers to reach out to us directly. We have done, as you know, literally hundreds of events, starting with our activity back in January, and most recently the various tours that we continue to take the system out on. As soon as I heard of this report, I asked my teams, “Have we seen this in our own experience?” And the candid answer has been no.
So throughout all of those experiences, throughout all the docking and undocking we’ve done, we haven’t seen it. So this is one where if it is happening, we want to understand more as to what the specific situation is. Which is why we want consumers to let us know through our support site.
And then as quickly as this mass-hysteria appeared, it went away. And now you never hear anyone anymore talking about their Switch being bent or the dock scratching it, because it wasn't actually happening.
Moral of the story, be wary that there's always mass hysteria when there's a new product.

I can put my hand in fire that the dock scratvhing the screen in a real issue and it did scratch the screen of my switch 1. And I babied that thing for years. Turns out there is a defect called a bend dock which curves the outr sell more inwards
Nintendo acknowledged that and send me a new dock even after warranty
Uh, the dock absolutely scratches the Switch screen. That’s not misinformation. I now use a third party dock to avoid further scratches on my Switch.
The scratches are thankfully mostly relegated to the black bezel (though a couple reached the actual screen), but it still looks bad.
I have a screen protector on mine and that dock scratched the shit out of it. I knew it would do this and had a screen protector on it since day 1.
Reggie also said Switch wouldn’t use friend codes 2 months before Switch came out and used friend codes.
It absolutely was and is an issue. They used overly hard plastic inside the dock for the guide rails.
They improved it on the OLED dock by making the interior glossy plastic, but it’s still possible to scratch the screen and even the rear housing if there’s some dust settled or the Switch rubs against the inside of the dock when docking/undocking.
My Switch dock has soft felt strips adhered to those guide rails, and a glass screen protector on the console, so it’s no longer a problem for me, but it certainly is out of the box.
We live in a rage bait environment. People will find some bullshit to complain.
My launch switch was definitely bent slightly as were a lot of others
This is why for each Switch I got, I placed a screen protector on them as soon as I took them out of the box. Because the first thing to scratch it if I didn’t place one on is the dock itself.
Other thing to keep in mind: absolutist fanboys in denial that don’t accept bad feedback on their favorite videogame.
Yeah this ain’t it. The dock absolutely scratched my day 1 switch. Still have it all scratched on one side to prove it.
Mine both was bent and scratched by the dock. And I was always careful short of using a screen protector.
There were legitimate technical issues with the original launch day switch. The dock was scratching the screen on some consoles and there was also a widespread issue with disconnecting joycons. I had to send mine in to have a modification on the Bluetooth antenna.
My switch broke day 1 put it in the dock and the screen blew. Took it back day after and luckily got a replacement ordered for next day pick up both my original day 1 switch and I guess day 3 switch were slightly bent. So yeah at least in my launch of Switch 1 had issues.
Misinformation like “tHe GaMeS cOsT $90!!!”
I have a day one switch that is now my custom firmware unit. It wasn’t bent but it absolutely did get scratched from using the dock. Minor scratches on the screen corners, but scratches nonetheless.
This isn’t misinformation at all these were common issues on the switch launch. My switch was personally bent and so were countless others….
Mine was bent forsure
The dock scratched my screen, had it week 1
I was just thinking about this a few days ago, mostly because I was kind of immersing myself in a bunch of the switch 1 launch stuff and social media of the time and videos etc. and that topic came up a few times and I was like “oh, yeah, that was a thing”!
I have a fairly early switch (Sept 2017) and there’s no sign of any sort of bending or scratches on mine after 8 years. Looking at it now there are some marks/lines within the bezel to each side, but they wipe off.
I wonder if some people legitimately had damaged product (bent or something) and then when they shared their story, people looked at their switches, saw those marks and decided they had the same issue and that is how it became “a thing” for a while?
I consider your post misinformation. Mine got scratched, not only that but it shipped with a faulty battery and when I posted about it here I got bombarded and accused of trying to spread misinformation, when the reality was fan boys were desperate to hide any and all critical posts about QC.
