Nintendo Land | The Only Reason To Own a Wii U in 2025
I just made a love letter to the Wii U and Nintendo Land that I figured this community would love! Hope you all enjoy it if you get a chance to check it out 😁💖

Yes let’s completely forget the homebrew scene exists

There are some other great games still on Wii U! Paper Mario Color Splash, Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, Wii Sports Club. Off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more.
But Nintendo Land is definitely killer.

Yoshi’s Wooly World in all its visual glory, Affordable Space Adventures, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, homebrew, playing Wii physical games through HD connection, DK64 VC….
But yeah Nintendo Land is awesome.

“Only” is a strong word. There are two Zelda remasters that are not available on any other platform (yet). And while the Virtual Console is tragically shut down as far as buying new games, anyone who purchased them back when the Wii U eShop was available (and 3DS, by the way) have possibly the best legal access to retro games, no monthly subscription required. This is my number one reason for holding onto my Wii U (but not the only one). Ported versions of ZombiU (an underrated horror gem, imo) can’t hold a candle to the originally intended two screen experience. Other games of that era were able to declutter the main HUD by relegating maps and other info to the gamepad, sometimes optionally (Assassin’s Creed 3 and 4 come to mind for me personally). And don’t forget Wii backwards compatibility.
Between the Switch 2, 3DS, and Wii U, I’ll have access to pretty much all the games I care about from the NES through Switch 2 *without a subscription.* The Wii U covers most of the games in over 20 years’ worth of that.
Oh yeah, and it has Nintendo Land.

It’s a good video…but the clickbait tagline does it a disservice. In the future I’d recommend something less extreme like, “the ⁸*best* reason to own a Wii U in 2025.” Otherwise you get us old Wii U diehards turning away instead of promoting your work.
Because Affordable Space Adventures, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, the HD Zeldas, etc are still worth it.
I’d also argue that Mass Effect 3 Wii U, Dues Ex Wii U, Mario Maker 1, Splatoon 1, and some others have some gamepad advantages that other versions miss out on.
But, yes, Nintendoland is still our main multiplayer go-to on the Wii U. It’s so unique. I really wish that Nintendo hadn’t pushed Metroid Federation Force to the 3DS but had made it a Wii U expansion to Nintendoland’s Metroid Blast with “mature” graphics so the at that point starved Metroid fans hadn’t revolted quite so hard.

That Donkey Kong game in Nintendo Land was cool as heck. I wouldn’t mind a port of that alone.

I’d love a Nintendo Land remaster & expansion. Some of those games were so much fun to play with friends. Had it been given online connectivity I probably would have gotten to play them more. The Luigi’s Mansion & Animal Crossing games were a blast.

If Nintendoland got ported to Switch or Switch 2, it’d 100% get a Splatoon expansion and online support.
