I’m probably gonna start a brand new playthrough if this is the new reality. I logged 200 hours on violet a long time ago, but accidentally lost that save file due to getting a new switch. Merp.
OnlyDarkminer
does anyone know if i will be able to transfer my safe from switch 1 to switch 2? Will i be able to just log in to my nintendo account and open Pokemon Violet?
ChrlsPC
It doesn’t even look like the same game 😭 we we’re really playing with PowerPoints on Switch
Background-Sea4590
Finally I can play this game. Really had to put it down because it gave me a pretty severe motion sickness. Let’s see if the improvements are enough to make it more tolerable.
dawnraiser_
Glad it has a better frame rate, but it really needs a new lighting engine… the desert shot was painful
trowgundam
God, I hope so. I’d love to go back and finish the DLC. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the second bit of DLC content because the framerate got so bad in that new area at times. I have a herd time believing any first party released videos. I want to believe, but too many publishers will cherry pick only the best circumstances or outright lie (although Nintendo has never done this to my knowledge, but they will cherry pick with the best of them). Not like a purchase hinges on it or anything, I already own the games + DLC, and I’d be getting a Switch 2 either way. So guess I’ll see for myself Thursday.
flabua
So glad I refunded this when it came out and decided to wait.
Pokeguy211
“Seems” yes that’s definitely 60 lol
locke_5
Glad I held off on the DLC for this!
konotiRedHand
Fantastic. Glad to finally play
lukijs
I cant take these pokemon games serious man, like gamefreak needs to get their shit together. I cant believe people were eating these up on og switch
swiftsquatch
I am so glad I decided to wait on starting a new save 😍
Cui17
Hopefully it’s a good sign for Gen 10!
jbayne2
Never played it because of how janky it was. I have a voucher and was eying either this or one of the top down Zelda games. Leaning towards Pokémon now though.
NYJetLegendEdReed
it legit looks like a different game lol
MrGamePadMan
It’s amazing what a crisp, prestine 4K image and a rock solid 60fps can do for any game, even with low quality assets like Scarlet/Violet.
Just saw the new footage on the app, and it looks appealing now. Even despite the low-res textures and simple art direction.
IrishSpectreN7
I hope GameFreak can stay ahead of this and we don’t end up with 20 fps Pokemon again for the next gen
Dukemon102
The art style still looks like ass, but at least it’s not an embarassing slideshow anymore.
Relevant_Scholar6697
I’m so glad I held off for the most part. I have never hated a Pokemon game, and in spite of their issues i liked Sword and Shield quite a lot so I bought the double pack of Scarlet and Violet. I got 8 hours into Violet and I just couldn’t anymore so I put it off hoping someday, the games would get better. This is probably as good as it’s going to get. Happy to finally play the games because the actual content of what I played was quite good.
Also, I know it’s an unpopular opinion around here but I truly believe that in terms of performance, Scarlet and Violet are the low point in the series and things will improve from here. No one WANTS to make a bad video game. Scarlet and Violet were a perfect storm, really. Gamefreak being on an enforced deadline by The Pokemon Company, switching to open world and attempting to make their first open world game in just 3 years with a relatively small staff, it was always going to be a disaster. The Switch 1 CAN handle open world games but it absolutely takes extra time to do it right. Time gamefreak never got. I know they’ve been hiring and my hope is with the increased power of the Switch 2, they just focus on refining their art style and improve performance overall. I’m not asking them to reinvent the wheel I just want them to make a solid product.
BeefCheadle
Is this getting a switch 2 edition or do I just need to buy the switch 1 version and update?
ScoobiesSnacks
Please do this same treatment for the Xenoblade games!
_Redversion_
This looks way better than it did on Switch 1. I just finished playing a second playthrough of Let’s Go, Legends Arceus, and Sword, so this is perfect timing to pick the game up again.
TheRigXD
This is what, the first game in the series since Gen V to run at 60fps and first outside of battle since Gen III?
seanze01
The last Pokémon game I played was on the Game Boy Advance. I’m torn between this and Pokémon let’s go Pikachu/Eevee. Which game would be better for a lapsed fan and which game would be better for a young child around 7 years old?
MarcosInu
Oh my god, the terrain looks better, buildings are not choppy, I think textures were improved as well, now I can see why ZA uses ScaVi engine
I am hyped
big_flopping_anime_b
Honestly might get this now. Yeah I know graphics blah blah but that doesn’t bother me too much. The only thing that stopped me playing this game was the horrible frame rate. Looks like they’ve sorted it.
predalien221
Seeing the lake with 60 fps makes me so happy. I avoided that place like the plague because of how bad the performance was there.
spoilz
I might pick up the dlc and give that a try with this update. Looks so much better
JoltingGamingGuy
I really hope they go back and create a patch for Legends Arceus, SWSH, and Let’s Go, but I’m not counting on it.
Gram64
It’s sad, but this is the thing that has me most hyped about switch 2. Scarlet/Violet at their core are really good games. The performance is just so terrible I beat Violet and set it aside waiting for something like this before actually putting in effort and time on DLC and post game.
Dazzling-One-9185
Looks amazing but I’m really hoping they didn’t single out a few solid 60fps moments and the rest of the time it’s like 40
Shibua_Tsugahra
Seeing this game run at 60 fps and this smoothly feels oddly uncanny.
SmokedUp_Corgi
I’m impressed this game looks very nice but I haven’t played a Pokémon game since Let’s Go Pikachu so I’m very behind on how things work anymore and who is who.
OurKing
I’ve said it before S/V was the biggest leap forward of any mainline Pokémon game only to be held back technically largely by performance issues on Switch 1 (multiple factors to blame here). On modern hardware this will make S/V one of the best in the series, at very least there will be no argument for SwSh being better
eatdogs49
So guess I should get a reprint updated cart whenever VGP puts one out so that I have everything available to play once I get a Switch2
MisterForkbeard
I mean, it looks MUCH better. Smooth, better draw distance, better resolution. More ground cover, I think?
Still doesn’t look great, but that’s much more enjoyable. Performance won’t be distracting any longer.
juniorspank
So should I get Violet or Scarlet?
SirusRiddler
My god. This game had no business running on Switch 1.
pyroguy30
Do we know if a Scarlet/Violet save can be transferred back to a Switch 1 from Switch 2? I see the spawn cap has increased beyond 15 which should make shiny hunting easier/more efficient. But there are a few tricks, like the 16th Minor spawn, which could become harder on Switch 2. Just wondering if I need to wrap up those shiny hunts before the move.
Queasy_Watch478
holy shit it’s so smooth! <3 and crispy. I WANT IT. EEEEE. 🙂
leeinflowerfields
Still ugly but now you can see the ugly better.
SoggyBagelBite
The world and foliage and stuff still looks like dookie.
UnbiasedFanboy96
I actually might buy the DLC for this to have another reason to give it a whirl. It actually looks like a game made this century, albeit, one that is still incomplete, particularly the lighting. It launched looking worse than most Dreamcast games.
IThinkItsCute
Oh my god that looks so much more pleasant to play. I’ve felt the whole time that there’s a pretty good game underneath all the technical issues just waiting to come out. Ideally the graphics would look a bit nicer, but if it stops stuttering that’s a HUGE improvement, a lot more important than better textures or whatever. There are areas you learn to avoid as much as possible because it slows down so much, including basically every town and city. That’s pretty awful!
When the day comes where I finally upgrade to a Switch 2, I should replay it. Do some sort of challenge run. Heck, if it’s improved enough I might even drop money on the DLC after all!
Another_Road
Holy crap. Dare I dream? Will the game actually perform at the bare minimum expectations for a game released in 2018?
SirRabbott
Yeah this isn’t the update most people expected it to be. The game runs better and you can hopefully now be on the water to catch Pokémon without wanting to claw your eyes out, but it still doesn’t even come close to BOTW. My decision to no longer buy Pokémon games remains steadfast until they actually make a game worth the money.
No-Floor1930
60 fps in 2025, what an evolution
saintgravity
The real patch fixes was the release of a $450 Switch 2 💀
PhaseRabbit
The frame rate wasn’t the only issue with the game lol.
