I get they did this to avoid leaks, but it still kind of sucks.
If someone finds a pallet of Switch 2 consoles 20 years from now they’re going to be useless if Nintendo turned the servers off.
So essentially if you have your Switch 2 console on the stock firmware (19) then you cannot play Switch 1 games, you cannot play Switch 2 games, you can’t do a system transfer from your switch 1. You can basically move around the home screen and fiddle with the settings, but that’s it.
Hopefully the newer batches of Switch 2 consoles will come with a higher firmware from the factory and just be plug and play out of the box.

You gave photographic proof of the system needing an update before launching the game. Its already been confirmed you can update via the game carts
Edit: got my switch 2 and cyberpunk today. Did not connect to internet and was able to update and play just fine offline

This is pretty standard with any tech nowadays, is it not? Consoles, phones, Smart TVs, etc. But I hope for the sake of the person that finds a pallet of Switch 2s in 20 years that they fix this.

I’m unclear why people are crying about this? I’m not typically a day-1 buyer but I can’t recall the last time I bought a PS5 or switch game that didn’t pretty quickly have at least 1 update.
Do you also complain when they release something and it’s buggy or glitchy and the patch doesn’t come for a month?

Why are people getting so annoyed with this thread… people are discussing something they want to discuss, isn’t that the whole purpose of reddit. The firmware and how you connect to internet etc is mostly related to understanding the process and options given that many want to preserve low firmware or know how to target low firmware installation using certain game carts, and stay offline, in the event the modding scene picks up.
Thanks for the advising that frmware is on gamecart, I hadn’t read that elsewhere.
