Very very good week if I do say so myself!
i like to clean house on sunday mornings, and this week begins the start of a new habit : i turned on mario kart, turned up the volume, and just let the music play in the background as i did dishes, dusted, cleaned the dog’s feeding station, folded laundry, etc. i even found myself humming and bopping a bit when certain songs came on! the soundtrack is sublime 😭
Maybe it’s just finally been long enough, but Mario Kart World is the first time I’ve really *cared* to play Mario Kart since Wii. It’s pretty fun and kinda hard. Maybe I’m just out of practice but 150cc seems to guarantee something happens in the 3rd lap to upend my victory lol.
The free roam is also cool, and it reminds me of Sonic Frontiers. I do wish there were a bit of a system in place to keep track of everything, though. The stickers you get just say “completed a mission” and … everything is just a sticker. And you can only use one. It’d be nice if maybe the missions or harder challenges/milestones came with a special benefit that you could equip to your cart. Maybe make custom load-outs so certain vehicles have certain stickers. Idk what the benefits would be though. Like badges in Wonder or the rpgs. Maybe like slightly easier drifting, extra power on boosts or other items, etc. Would probably be a mess to balance but right now the stickers feels a little meaningless… but the game seems to think they’re everything.
But anyway. Smile Sunday. Not throw down lol. Free roam still cool. Missions are fun. Def not an empty world imo. But again I loved Frontiers and people said the same about that
