For those curious, here’s a side by side of the new Nintendo GameCube controller made for the Nintendo Classics GameCube games. I’ve put it next to the Power A Wireless Nintendo approved GameCube controller (Power A left, Nintendo, Right).
Initial thoughts:
The new controller has a lot more weight to it. It feels a lot more solid than the Power A does. The buttons are clicky (including the Z Button, not much travel there), and the triggers do have some travel like the earlier Power A editions (and of course the original controllers).
They’re about the same size, but you might notice that at the center, the rear has a small jump that gives it a bit more height than the Power A. Likely due to the batter inside and any additional hardware they’ve rearranged and stuffed in here.
You’ll notice the top does have a “ZL” button, which gives me hope that we might see use outside of the Nintendo Classics GC games (I don’t have my Switch 2 yet to test this).
Out of morbid curiosity, I did try to pair this with my original Switch, and this of course did not work. Just thought I’d give it a shot though in case.
The finish seems very durable, much better than the Power A, however, you can probably tell by the images that the Power A is very much worn in. I’ve had it for about 6 years.
Happy to have this in hand, hope to get more, and be able to play some smash and other GC classics soon.
