There will be a lot of misinformation on this topic alone but the first thing that needs to be address is that both consoles support LPCM 5.1 only. Meaning that a speaker system that has been prebuilt for decoding Dolby Digital and DTS won't work for surround sound no matter what you do. Do not buy extractors to address this issue the real solution is getting and AV receiver as most AV receivers are easily able to take in LPCM through HDMI.
What did I do to solve the issue exactly?
-
Purchased a cheap AV receiver that supports 4K at 60hz for 75 bucks off facebook. You can plug in the same speakers to the system assuming the AV receiver has no issues taking in 8ohm speakers. I purchased a Yamaha RX-V385.
-
Purchased a composite Y cable with two female inputs for the AMP.
-
Purchased a composite red/white normal cable with male to male ends.
Optional: Purchased 3.5mm to composite female cable.
For the amp to work the console needs to be turned on. The reason why I purchased a 3.5mm y adapter was to test in which input it sounds better. I am not an audiophile but I could not notice too much difference even though I believe there was a minor difference when using 3.5mm.
