I think people are starting to forget that mario kart games are made for children

Because negative clickbait gets you views and thus money. It’s also why the video starts off with “there’s a massive conspiracy theory we’ll get to later” to keep you watching long enough.

  3. SuperGrover8D

It’s really not that complicated. It’s a fun little feature to play around with and collect stuff. It’s not the main reason people play MK.

I know negativity drives the youtube algorithm, but come on…

People are enjoying the game, keep that shit on youtube.

  5. Fernanddaze

making a hate video about a game that is selling tremendously well is pointless too

  6. Owen364GameGolfBlitz

I don’t think that is pointless at all. Go complain somewhere else.

  7. banjosmangoes

Isn’t it just a sandbox to learn all the shortcuts and secrets of the map without having to restart races multiple times?

  8. Level_Forger

Funny. My son is having literally infinite fun wandering around it aimlessly and he doesn’t even do the challenges.

I’m not going to watch this click bait nonsense but I will say that the open world lacking any kind of progression attached to the challenges and collectables does feel odd and leaves me with little motivation to engage with the content.  This is from someone who loves the game overall.

  10. The reason the world in MKW feels pointless, is that instead of making Free roam and Knockout tour another mode outside of Grand Prix, they made the grand prix be just another knockout tour.

Of theu had given us a good grand prix mode instead of shoving the world part down our throats, the the exploration would have felt more interesting. Now it’s just too much!

    And the UI sux…

It’s not pointless when I can call up my friends and we can talk and chill while driving around.

  12. Downvoted without even watching. Been having an absolute blast in Free Roam and the ability to connect various different race tracks together is great.

  13. It’s not what maybe I hoped it would be. With like characters and missions and towns etc.

It’s still a nice little playground though. It screams for a DLC to add more interesting collectibles or  content in the future

It was marketed as Mario Forza Horizon, and the game turned out to be nothing like that. Try to justify it however you want, but anyone who can read between the lines can see what they were trying to do. Maybe they’ll get it right with the sequel 10 years from now.

  15. Turd_fergu50n

This post is far more pointless than anything in a universally loved game.

It’s like people have forgotten to do something for the enjoyment of it. It’s not pointless, it’s one of those things that you sit down too and lose a couple of hours in as you try and complete challenges or try and reach the extremities of what you and the game can do. You don’t need stat bars or rewards to do that. Probably the most over used word in conjunction with Nintendo in recent years but it’s a playground.

i like driving around in the world and turning off my brain, or listening to a podcast and driving around. its nice to not have to go fast.

  18. It’s not even the focus of the game. The ‘free roam’ mode is an option off to the side.

I understand the need for a hot take on the best selling video game console launch, but these videos are quite boring in their consistency and failure to grasp proper criticism. And there’s stuff to criticize MKW about legitimately.

  19. Nimble_Natu177

The “conspiracy” part of this video is stupid, but the rest is valid criticism.
Since unlocking Mirror Mode, I have zero interest in ever going back to Free Roam unless a banger song comes on. Finding the 10 of each just turned into “spam golden mushroom into the wall while waiting for an item box to give you a feather” which is the opposite of fun.

  20. BaerMinUhMuhm

It doesn’t feel pointless. Who is this video for?

  21. poly_lifestyle

15 minute video to say “there’s not much there”

  22. Correct_Refuse4910

You forgot to mention that the collectibles in Free Roam help you unlock Mirror Mode, which is a weird omission in this video where you like to repeat over and over how pointless everything is and how they only give you stickers.

Also, while it’s true that some of those collectibles are just there lying around for you to collect, some are really challenging to get. Depends on the kind of player you are, but I like to take challenges head on and I really don’t mind the reward, as I’m having my fill going thorugh them. And I don’t know how much time you have spent in the free roam mode, but there are P-Switrches that are literal races through retro-tracks, because retro-tracks are actually part of the open world, usually being also part of the new course itself or at least is close-by.

I won’t bother arguing the rest of the points because most of them feel like a you problem more than a game problem, like not being interested in the stuff the game offers you to do. Feels a bit childish to complain about having nothing to do while also refusing to do anything, I dunno…

I can agree on some stuff, of course. I would like more content as anybody would, but I haven’t felt that the open world was boring or pointless, mostly because of my 30h game time easily 20h have been in Free Roam.

Genuine questions for anybody that disagrees with the criticisms. Sincerely asking, because I personally am not seeing much reason for the open world.

What about this open world motivates you to explore it? Is it the little challenges and collectibles? Are the sticker rewards enough? Is it just a casual time to mess around with no pressure?

For me, it just seems to lack purpose or motivation to explore. I’m a kind of player that likes to have goals/tasks to complete and have significant rewards tied to completing them. The open world for me, just feels like unless you just want to do things just to do them, there is little reason to do so. And driving around aimlessly with no goals in mind doesn’t appeal much to me.
