I’ve been getting back into collecting and honestly, I’m kind of disappointed with the quality of modern Pokémon cards.
The cards feel like thin cardboard, flimsy and not satisfying to hold. Compared to other TCGs like One Piece, which have high-quality card stock, rich textures, and impressive holo layers, Pokémon just feels… cheap.
Even the holos nowadays look flat and uninspired. Back in the Base Set era, the holofoil had this deep, almost 3D sparkle to it. It felt magical. Now it’s just a basic glossy layer.
I get that Pokémon prints a massive volume, but for a brand this successful, you’d think they’d invest more in making the cards feel premium again.
Anyone else feel the same?
