Hey everyone, long time Nintendo fan here. My wife & I recently visited Kyoto and one of our bucket list items was the Nintendo Museum! While we didn't win the initial lottery tickets, I was able to snipe some tickets open for sale on their site a month later. It is located in Uji, about an hour away from Kyoto.
The upstairs exhibit area is a true homage to every Nintendo product ever created. You could spend hours in there as a fan admiring all the consoles, accessories and games in pristine condition. My only con was that I wish there was an audio guide or more plaques with history about each section. It's more of a display of the greatest Nintendo collection in the world.
Filming was not allowed in the upstairs exhibit area, but you can film in the interactive exhibits area. We tried the following games and here were our reviews:
- Zapper & Scope SP (10/10) – Highly recommend!
- Ultra Machine SP (8/10) – Fun batting experience!
- Love Tester SP (7/10) – Short fun for couples.
- Big Controller Room (8.5/10) – Every Nintendo fan's dream to play on GIANT controllers!
- Ultra Hand SP (6/10) – Was very hard! Also short.
We then shopped at the Museum Gift shop and obtained a lot of super exclusive merch like the Nintendo controller & music keychain blind boxes, pins & sticker boxes, and a GIANT Wii remote pillow I vacuumed sealed back home.
We filmed an extensive vlog on our experience at the Nintendo Museum, so feel free to check it out! Happy to answer any questions!

What. I had no idea this existed. My lady is always looking to go to Japan, I think we finally found the tipping point.
Thanks for the post!
Kyoto is overloaded with tourists at the moment for whatever reason (probs the Osaka world expo). More than usual.
The city is full of tourists. I’ve seen Americans swarming the matcha places en masse (made it more annoying than usual to get my regular supply)
Best wait till things calm down before visiting
