its not just video games yall, its inflation, the entire global economy is going to shit, articles like this give such a narrow fucking veiw of the problem at and, only calling out video game prices is treating symptoms not diseases. the fact of the matter is that the wages of the working class in much of the world has not risen with inflation in decades, our collective buying power is vanishing, and for a capitalist system to actually function capital needs to actually you know flow, hard for that to happen when its being hoarded by less than 1% of the poulation.

Just commenting on the headline alone: people say this every generation and it ends up not being true every single time.

This reads like a hit piece lol. how in any way was the switch 2’s price tag “alarming”? the closest comparable device would probably be the **steam deck*** oled which at its cheapest is still more expensive than the switch 2 bundled with mario kart.

    Edit: oops

  4. vexorian2

Weird how nobody had this take to give when the AAA studios were pushing for every single game release to be a free to play live service whose monetization was entirely caused by causing kids to be addicted to Gambling.

  5. Tldr : freemium games exist therefore the gaming industry is over(?) Id save the energy of reading this for something else

Stopped reading at “despite the alarming price tag”

Just from the first few sentences alone, I can tell that it’s a completely bullshit article, either written by AI or by someone who needed to fill a slot. The switch 2’s price is not “alarming”, Fortnite and Roblox are shitstains but there are thousands of games that come out each year that are not named Fortnite or Roblox (so they can be ignored by us higher tier gamers).

  8. Honestly, seems like a think piece with no thought. I’m sure there is great possibility the industry could be in trouble, but the article doesn’t really offer that evidence “hey roblox and fortnight that have been around for quite a while are huge, this model will kill the industry, also nintendo is killing it with the new console which is great, but they are making movies and building theme parks which is proof they are in trouble.” Like nothing in this article makes 2+2=4. Am I just missing something? It doesn’t seem to provide any real evidence to it’s point, or even a theoretical point A to B of what might happen and why. They mention how much the cheap games seem to net on deals and one example of sales, but how is that different from all the Candy Crush type of mindless games that have been out for nearly a couple of decades? Willing to listen if I’m missing something here.

Sounds like we may end up in a scenario where Nintendo will be the last console producer with large single fee games all bc they have the best IPs

  10. The current success of the Switch 2 directly contradicts the central argument made in this article.

  11. Dismal_Employment168

No it’s just $20 more expensive per game now 😂

  12. From the em-dashes to the boring generic language and the overt repetition needed to get to the point, I’m like 85% sure this article is AI-slop.

  13. PhantomZoneJanitor

Are these folks completely out of touch?

I mean… I’ve been gaming since 1988 and there are an enormous amount of great games coming out. I very literally can not keep up. Weird take and weird article for someone to post on Reddit.

  15. Weirdly angry at Switch 2 with no reasoning? Check
Terrible central argument (incoherent in this case)? Check
    Mostly misinformed? Check
    “Old good new bad”? Check.

Looks like this post is ready for r/gaming. They’ll love it!
