I've been playing around with the idea of making a Kanto/Johto based fan game for some time and finally decided to start.
My post with a preview of the 2.5D style I'm gonna use for the overworld and characters.
Now I made this mock up for the battle UI and I wanna ask what do you guys think of it. Everything is a placeholder for now.
I took inspiration from Fire Emblem'a battles UI and added Pokemon elements to it.
– It only uses front sprites.
– name of the players and portrait on top, a text box to prompt what you can do or enemy is doing.
– the party is always visible on the side, faded portraits for fainted pokemon, and I'll add small icons to indicate poisoning, sleeping etc.
– the enemy party will only show the pokemon they revealed, unknow pokemon will have some sort of "?" icon.
– hovering the portrait will show the name, level and HP (status changes are in the icons I plan to add).
– clicking the portrait lets you see summary page for its stats or switch it in.
– bag menu for balls and using itens and run away button.
– the active pokemon will have its name, hp and exp bars, and status chenge visible.
– clicking on the active pokemon lets you choose the attack with its information: type, special/physical (not there yet), pp.
– animations for the attacks, visual indications of being hit and other stuff to make things easily readable.
That's it.
What do you guys think? Is this a serviceable layout? Any major flaws? Suggestions?
