Nintendo Switch

Warframe studio would love to do a proper Switch 2 version but it’s still waiting on a dev kit: “So if you know anyone…”

Digital Extremes joins the long list of developers who would love to support the Switch 2 but literally can't, it seems.

Why on earth do so many still not have dev kits??

  2. OwnManagement

This is ridiculous. What an own goal by Nintendo.

Thanks nintendo. Im convinced they’re holding out to boost the numbers on 1st party titles.

  4. This confirms what I’ve been telling all my friends about the Switch 2

It’s not that devs are being lazy, it’s that many teams literally never got dev kits leading up to the launch of the console, which is why there are so few Switch 2 versions of games

Compare this to the launch of the PS5, where we had tons of PS5 versions of PS4 games within the first few months, and lots of PS4 games just ran better in general on the new hardware

They really deserve way more flak for the shit they’re pulling this launch in terms of third-party support.

Even the devs that did get dev kits aren’t updating their old games.

This is wild that Nintendo didn’t make enough dev kits to send out. This is my biggest issue with how they’re handling the Switch 2.

  8. H-Town-Kendrick

Man this is one of my main games. Cmon Nintendo!!!

It was likely to prevent leakers… those assholes have been annoying lately. Looking at you pokemon leakers. But all leakers have been getting bolder.

I haven’t seen this sort of apathy towards third-party studios since the Yamauchi days!

  11. sicdedworm

Que all the people that are going to still defend Nintendo for not sending out dev kits.

You’d think Genshin Impact would have been a lock for the Switch 2 as well.

I think they are prioritizing new games, honestly. If you want to make a brand new game for NS2, or want to co-develop an NS2 version of a game now that you were already developing for other systems that isn’t out yet, you get priority. What’s going to convince people with NS1’s to upgrade to an NS2, new games or ports of games like Warframe, that has been out since 2013?

A 12 year old game getting a port isn’t going to sell systems, no matter how much content it’s added since then.

I think Nintendo is mostly focusing on third party studios that are making brand new games that nobody has yet, because those will sell systems. Obviously there are exceptions to this, such as Cyberpunk 2077 which was heavily pushed, but mostly they are laser focus on brand new third party games bring developed for the system. Old ports can wait, unless they have significant enhancements *and* Nintendo thinks they will sell a ton.

Nintendo hasn’t even released Switch 2 upgrades for their own games which is crazy. Every first party game of theres should have gotten a 1080p 60fps update minimum.

They are waiting on a dev kit, I am waiting on a console, people who bought the console waited a month for something that wasn’t a racing game, all after 7 years. Was this an incompetent launch?

  16. CondiMesmer

What is the reasoning to be so secretive about dev kits again? Every platform should be exactly like PC and run whatever the hell they want.

  17. flash_baxx

And I was really hoping for Switch 2 news at Tennocon today, too.

  18. krishnugget

This is getting insane? I really want a Marvel rivals port because I think it could run better than on my steam deck, but apparently those devs don’t even have a dev kit either?

  19. hornetjockey

That’s kinda dumb that they wouldn’t be able to get one. Warframe is an incredible game with heroic staying power. Can’t imagine why they would struggle to get one.

I still can’t believe what a poor job Nintendo has done with this. Even worse, it seems the approach with S1 compatibility was to just “ship S2 and see what happens”. Almost nobody was able to test their games on an S2 prior to launch. It’s a miracle things went as well as they did.

This, and this alone, is giving me massive Switch 2 regret. Crazy that it was an issue at launch, unforgiveable this long afterwards.

  21. CannonBeetle

Insane that so many devs haven’t gotten kits yet.

  22. never played the Switch version,

does it have an FPS lock setting? because offering a toggle to change the fps lock from 30 to 60fps would massively improve the game for Switch 2 owners I bet.

also the other console versions have resolution sliders and a toggle to enable/disable dynamic res scaling. another option that would probably massively improve the Switch verson for Switch 2 owners.

I wonder if Nintendo diverted hardware from devkit manufacturing to help pump available consumer models. Sure, the PCB on the dev kit is different, but it’s still going to require a lot of the same silicon, and that’s the bottleneck of producing any electronic device right now.

  24. Lower-Connection-504

Nintendo cant blame anyone but themselves if 3rd party support dwindles.

  25. Sempuukyaku

Some of the takes in this thread 😂

They are going to get devkits, folks. Calm down.

When you have a successful platform that everyone wants to develop on, getting dev hardware takes time. It’ll probably start to really be sorted towards the end of the year when they’re able to seriously ramp up supply.

  26. InitRanger

People really have short memories. When the Switch 1 launched it took all devs 6 months to a year to get a dev kit. Same thing with the PS5.

I think the only console that didn’t have this issue is Xbox and that’s because you can use a retail unit as a dev kit.
