I started designing this mon for fun, but as I worked more on it it started to feel like it could be a really cool concept, so I wrote out some lore, and finalized the art. Any improvement suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Lore:
Long ago, in a forgotten tundra ravaged by violent snowstorms and unforgiving winds, a troop of mandrill-like Pokémon migrated in search of warmth. Only one remained after the blizzard—Mindrill. It perished alone beneath the icy moonlight, its cries swallowed by the wind. Its spirit, filled with bitterness, refused to move on.
Reborn as a spectral echo of its former self, Mindrill now wanders the frozen lands that betrayed it, its voice warped into a psychic howl that bends the minds of all who hear it. Even the strongest Pokémon cannot resist the pull—nearby creatures fall under its control, forming eerie, zombie-like herds that patrol the snow-covered wastes in its name.
Instead of forgetting the pain of its death, Mindrill channels that anguish into rage. It’s not merely haunting the tundra—it’s punishing it. It distorts weather patterns, stirs avalanches with howls, and turns once-hospitable routes into psychic mazes of confusion and misdirection.
