Abra is one of my favorite pokemon, but I don't like its evolutions very much, so I thought it would be fun to redesign the line with another interpretation.
These Abra live in a snowy climate and so evolved to blend in more with the icy environment. The claws on one hand developed into a type of channeling rod, or wand, able to move the water vapor in the air. When they see danger, these Abra use the water vapor as mist to create illusions and then flee with remarkable speed, making it seem as though they teleported away. They have a mischievous temperament, enjoying playing pranks on travellers in their territory with their illusions.
Kadabra is a showman, practicing their tricks for audience enjoyment. They like spending time near human settlements so that they can create illusions for the people living there. They tend to get jealous of other Kadabra since they want to gather the largest audience possible and will get into disputes over their territory. When it comes to fighting, they prefer stylish attacks, but will often simply use their wand to smack their opponents when no one is watching.
A Kadabra that moves on from its approval-seeking ways and seeks to hone their skills for their own sake evolves into Alakazam. These Alakazam save their energy as much as possible, only showing off their impressive speed and fighting prowess when absolutely necessary.
