@IsThisJed asked me a while ago to try and create a Ghost-Fairy Type Pokémon based on purifying evil spirits. After some thinking, I came up with something. This is Garlirend (Garlic-Reverend), the Repel Pokémon. Its main inspiration is the trope of priests and exorcism commonly used in horror stories (please note that I don’t actually watch those kinds of movies nor take them seriously. I’m also not a Catholic). It’s obviously a bulb of garlic, which is often associated with warding off creatures like vampires. Meanwhile, the leaves beneath it are like old skin that peels off of garlic and onions, as well as looking like robes or the pages of an open Bible. The sprigs on top unfold like a little cross, and makes the Pokémon look like that Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch thing you see popes and monarchs carrying around. I’m working on an evolution that looks more human-like, though I’ll need more time to perfect it. Also note that I’m not trying to say anything stereotypical about Christians (I happen to be one myself). So yeah, there’s your Pokémon. I don’t know if I will include it in the Frontera region or not just yet, but I’m pretty content with the design and I hope you are, too!
