Nintendo Switch

Received Counterfeit Pro Controller though Walmart.com (3rd party seller, Fulfilled by Walmart)

Was really excited to get a (Switch 1) pro controller this week and Walmart has them on sale for $42. I was loosely aware of counterfeits on the market, but I never thought I would receive one from Walmart! Turns out I should have dug into the one-star reviews on the official nintendo switch pro controller listing; apparently, this is an ongoing "3rd party seller-fulfilled by Walmart" scam. I only figured it out because I was planning to do an aesthetic case swap, but as soon as I popped the back panel off, I realized something was up. Granted, I've never owned or held one of these in person, so I don't know if it would have been more obvious before doing that, and the 1-star pictures on the listing show much more obvious fakes and issues. There's pretty much nothing obvious on the box or the outside of the controller that indicates it could be a counterfeit (to me). It even has a large metal weight inside to make up for the completely fake HD rumble packs. I already talked to Walmart customer support and they will be helping me try to get a legitimate controller as a replacement, but I don't expect much more than my money back. Be warned, if tempted by low prices on Walmart's website; double check in you cart, the item is just "sold by Walmart" and not "sold by [SELLER NAME] fulfilled by Walmart ".

Was there a way to know it’s fake if you didn’t open the case? Did it still say “THX2 ALLGAMEFANS” under the right joystick?

Yeah buying through Wal mart third party sellers is pretty much begging to be annihilated

Even if a product is fulfilled by reputable company like Walmart or Amazon, if it comes from a third party seller there’s no guarantee it’s going to be legit

Never buy from 3rd party sellers on any website.

    >but I never thought I would receive one from Walmart!

    Good news! You didn’t!

Scam sellers. Stop calling them third party.

When the price seems too good to be true, that’s a big warning sign. $42 is only around half of MSRP.

This is why I only buy from authorized retailers.

I mean that’s what you get from buying 3rd party? Most of them are scams

This is why you don’t go through third party sellers on a retailer’s app. I don’t know why they even have that feature

Walmart might be the worst place to buy from online right now. Can’t even find products because it’s a wasteland of scalpers and counterfeits. I’m personally hoping it ends in a class action lawsuit or something.

Tangentially related, for anyone that has one of these. How do they feel? I always see them on sites like eBay and Walmart and have always wondered how they feel compared to a normal pro controller. I don’t have a need for one but was more so just curious haha.

Yeah I’ve learned to never buy pro controllers from Walmart, as last time I bought a new one it was used

I see your POV because console controllers are overpriced but it’s not worth it to get through 3rd party sellers

  16. Yeah I don’t remember when it was that the walmart website started letting literally anyone sell there, but it basically killed their online shop.

There’s no point ever buying online from them since any random joe blow could be the one selling shit.

The seller didn’t even bother to thnk all gamefans smh

I bought one at a physical GameStop and they refused to give me a refund. I charged my card back for fraud it was crazy

The vibe I get is that Walmart is even worse than Amazon for counterfeits. I personally never buy anything from them from their online store.

It’s unfortunate that you got a fake and I hope you get your money back. Every website that turned into a 3rd party market (amazon, walmart, newegg) lost basically all my business. I just buy direct from the brand’s website, or for pc stuff from my local microcenter.

Report the seller in the app and provide photos. If you are having trouble, DM me.

  22. I’ve seen that on Walmart before. I actually got in an argument with someone on Reddit a while back who was trying to act like he was better than everyone else because he waited for Switch games and accessories to receive price cuts unlike everyone else. The only examples he could give me was a 5 dollar switch case and 40 dollar pro controller from Walmart. I’m like 90% sure he bought one of these and thought it was legit and then used it as a way to brag about how patient he is online.

This happened to me a month ago. I was so upset cuz I went through Deku deals and didn’t realize it was 3rd party. 🙁
