This might be the first time ever that an older console gets a price increase after its successor is released.

Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025. These include Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and select Nintendo Switch accessories.

Other Nintendo products, including certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, will also see adjustments.

Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time. However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.

  3. Weren’t Switch accessories and Amiibo already more expensive in the US?

I swear half of you don’t follow the news at all and don’t understand what the current market conditions are lol

    Why just the US?

Nevermind… we all know exactly why just the US.

Only a matter of time before the Switch 2 price increases.

So, my interpretation of this is that they priced the Switch 2 with potential tariffs in mind. Is that what others are getting as well? Because I don’t see Nintendo of America eating the cost.

I planned on getting a switch 2 in like a year but got one recently because of the fear of a price increase. I know this is for the switch 1 but I expect a switch 2 price increase eventually

  9. Earlier in another thread someone said that certainly Nintendo will reduce the price of the original Switch now lmao

We can thank the orange baboon for this. Just increased universal tariff percentages again, effective August 7th. 🇺🇸 🦅

Remember when GameCube was $50 at the end of its life cycle.

A price hike on 8 year old hardware is WILD

Let’s be super clear here for people who don’t follow the news or politics: Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress are responsible for rising prices on products like this because they implemented tariffs, which are an extra fee charged on imported products. Companies then pass that extra fee onto the customer. If you don’t like high prices on imported goods, don’t vote for Republican politicians.

**Are we tired of winning yet?**
We are *literally* the ones paying the tariffs.

In case you didn’t know, billionaires have been trying for years to eliminate income and capital gains taxes and replace them with a sales tax system. This shift would overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy, especially those who hoard capital, while increasing the burden on working and middle-class Americans.

The problem is that a national sales tax is incredibly unpopular and politically difficult to pass.

So now tariffs are being used as a backdoor sales tax. They quietly shift the financial burden onto everyday people while handing more money to billionaires and large corporations.

Tariffs aren’t a punishment for foreign countries. They’re a hidden tax on us.

400 for a switch oled or 500 for a switch 2 is so nuts.

This is the only console I bought at launch because I thought it will only get MORE expensive

  17. Beautiful-Ranger-535

But wait…. my pwesident twump PWOMISED the other countries would PAY the tawiffs… What’s Happening???

  18. SnacksGPT

Can we hit the highest prices on earth for imported goods!?

That’s how high scores work, right!? That’s how we win!!!

Finally we can all go out vote with our wallets and buy our made in USA game console. Oh wait.

  21. mild-hot-fire

Republicans can’t get over all this winning

  22. Kenjionigod

A $400 Switch is a very hard sale when the Switch 2 is just $50 more.

  23. What’s fun is when the tariffs are reduced or removed (wishful thinking), the prices never come back down. It’s a fun game. /s

1/3 of people voted for this and 1/3 of people didn’t vote at all. Keep voting to stuff Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Musk’s pockets and keep voting to lose your rights. Are leopards eating you face yet? They will… when it effects you or your loved ones. I swear they are sociopaths with zero empathy until it effects them.

  25. Wonderful-Road9491

I’ve been dragging my feet on getting a Switch 2. Maybe I’d better pick up the pace. This volatile administration isn’t giving us certainty that prices will stay as is.
