Not sure what regions this sale is affecting. But in NA at least, you can pick up the Switch 1 version for $11 and upgrade to the switch 2 editions for an additional $10. Less than h \alf the price of just buying the Switch 2 version on that's currently on sale.
Just a note, the upgrade path is different from other switch games. Once you purchase the game and get past the intro cutscene, you can access "additional content" in the main menu, which gives you access to download a coupon. The coupon lets you then purchase the full Switch 2 version of the game for $10.

You don’t actually need to do the redemption thing if you’re buying digital. That’s only to attribute a physical copy to your Nintendo account. The discount will be automatically applied if you own Hogwarts Legacy for Switch 1 digitally.

edit: asking because i want to play the game and i travel away from home quite a bit so i don’t always get the chance to play docked
It is better to buy cartridge 1 (pre-owned and cheap if possible), then upgrade to digital 2, then sell cartridge 1 as it is not required to play digital 2. This way you can conceivably pay only $10 for digital 2, or even less if you make a profit on cartridge 1. And, yes, cartridge 1 is good for the digital 2 upgrade on as many Switch 2 systems as it is inserted in.

It’s not an upgrade. The switch 2 version is a separate game for which you get a discount if you own the switch 1 version, digital or cartridge, doesn’t matter.
Pro tip: If your local library has Switch games, borrow it from there and purchase the Switch 2 upgrade and you now own it digitally,

Honestly, the game is only enjoyable for maybe a few hours before the magic wears off, and you realize it’s another repetitive Ubisoft-style open world.
Better yet, don’t buy the terf wizard game maybe.

Meanwhile, Hogwarts Legacy sold extremely well, to the point there’s talk of a sequel.

I just bought the Switch 1 version on sale and then the $10 upgrade popped up in the eShop. No need to install the Switch 1 version at all.
Funny I thought I made a mistake. Bought the switch 1 version then saw the switch 2 version was $10 in the eshop. I grabbed that and asked for a refund for the switch 1 version explaining I meant to buy the switch 2 version and nintendo gave a refund.
So now I have the switch 2 version $10 all in.

I bought switch 1 version at argos on sale for £21.99 used “The Method” 😁 got the upgrade through the in game menu then went to cex traded in switch version for £20 and put that toward Zelda echoes of wisdom for £35! Mission complete 😁
I just did this with my GFs physical copy. Popped it into my switch 2, got to hogwarts to drop a hard save. Upgraded to the switch 2 version and converted my physical to a digital download, gave her the physical copy back. That is quite the deal for $10
Did this the other day, worked like a charm. Just bought the S1 version and installed, then went back to the eshop and the S2 version was there for $10.
Already almost 100’d it on Series X but for 20ish bucks to play it on the go, an easy grab for me.
Better yet, in my country, I can sell switch 1 cart of hogwarts legacy on Cex for a price higher than at which I can buy it. My copy should arrive tomorrow, I can get the switch 2 upgrade and sell it for a higher price bringing price of the game to like $6
