This Chikorita was my favorite animated character overall for a very long time.
One of the most expressive and emotional Pokémon they’d shown up until that point. The scene in Johto Journeys where Ash gets stuck in the snowy mountain to save her, used to make me cry.
I’m only now realizing she was my introduction to tsun-type characters, which tend to be my favorite. Fun how preferences work out sometimes.

Used to hate Chikorita and Bayleef as a kid, but I’ve grown to like them after watching the episodes again.
I wish they never had that scene where Bayleef gets overly upset after being sent to Professor Oak’s during the Whirl Cup. It got so anxious being away from Ash for a little bit, it made me wonder if Ash leaving for Hoenn without her would have been a lot worse.
And it only gets sadder as you get further away from the Johto days. Those reunion episodes where she’s still very enamored with Ash. All that love for him, and he’s got no time for her.
