Collectable figure with NFC(?) chip

Recently bought a cute Emboar figure while on a trip without knowing what it was. When I opened the box I saw a chip on the underside of the stand. I tried to look up what it was for out of curiosity but found no answers. Wondering if anyone recognises this line of figures and what the chip was used for, I'm really curious now.
