Everyone should be able to enjoy the game – no matter which “team” they are on

September 6, 2025

I disabled the notifications for the thread because almost all of the comments were just off-topic, spam, or toxic attacks against me and my playstyle – simply because I made suggestions for the game and was therefore called “entitled.” Not a single comment actually addressed the main point: why my suggestions might be good or bad.

On top of that, literally every one of my comments in the thread got downvoted just because I’m the OP – no matter what it was about. Even when someone accused me of deleting them as a friend and I explained why I generally remove friends, I still received downvotes.

This was my first post in this subreddit, I don't feel comfortable here anymore – mostly because of the hostility and also because the moderators didn’t take much action against many of the comments. I really expected more from this community.

Thanks to everyone who, even when they disagree, manages to stay civil. – you make the world a better place. Someone taught me something many years ago: if you don’t have anything nice to say, it’s better not to say anything at all.

Everyone Should Enjoy the Game – Regardless of Team, Playstyle, or Region

Hi everyone,
I’m a level 40 player from Team Green (Harmony) and I’ve always hoped that the tasks requiring raids and gym battles could be adjusted. This way, all players would have the chance to level up beyond 40 and complete all kinds of research (timed, special, field, and even paid) to earn rewards like GO Pass Points and mythical Pokémon.

Now that the level cap increase has been announced, my hope is growing that the developers might take a different approach this time. Maybe, with our feedback, we players can even help make it happen.

Here’s my idea: It could work similarly to Team Challenges or Research Paths, where players can choose what they want to focus on – for example:

  • Raid / Dynamax / Gigantamax battles
  • Catching, walking, field research
  • Rocket or GO Battle League battles etc.

This way, all players would be able to adapt tasks to their playstyle. Everyone could decide for themselves which type of content they want to engage with, rather than being forced into things they don’t enjoy. We’re all Pokémon GO players who love the game, enjoy it, and spend hundreds of hours playing – but we have different interests and preferences.

This could also help address the issue for rural players, who often have very few gyms, power spots, or other players nearby, and therefore struggle more with completing group tasks. I believe that if players / customers are satisfied, they’ll also spend more money, generating more profit in the process.

All I wish is that every player – regardless of their playstyle or where they live – can enjoy the game without (or with only minimal) restrictions. Please think about this: nothing will be taken away from anyone, but it will create more happy players overall.

(Thanks for the criticism, even if some of them were quite unfriendly. I've improved my original post so that it now applies to all players, not just specific playstyles.)

Why did you remove me twice? I sent you daily gifts 🥲

I’d show your profile to people in person until one day I couldn’t.

Switching in gmax isn’t a bad idea, I’m not sure if they will come up with a system for such a small minority of players though

    >Team Green (Harmony)

Is this indicated anywhere in game or did you just make this up to feel special.

  4. I’m Mystic, but would love to see more Harmony players. I don’t think staying in team Harmony should limit the scope of the game. On the other hand, making custom task seems overly complicated from an engineering point of view. The easiest solution would be to make everyone be ‘team Harmony’ at Level 1. Then switch to one of the three classic ones at L5, leaving the option to stay at this ‘4th’ team option with all the capabilities of the other teams.

Who makes your appraisals? Professor Oak?

It would be even fun to let players join Team Rocket after L50 and make the game more competitive.

They would need to solve for other cases too:
    – Would you be able to battle gyms?
-If not, then no gym medals?
    – If yes, What happens if you take over a gym? Since it’s teamless, stays gray?
    – I’m guessing no same-team bonuses in raids?

  5. You started a year ago and already have 310 million XP?

I get the appeal of playing with a self-imposed restriction, but Niantic/Scopely is very specifically not motivated to encourage Team Harmony in any way. You are choosing to lock yourself out of a feature that is one of the game’s biggest money-makers. I genuinely cannot imagine a scenario that would convince them to add features that make that choice easier or more desirable.

  7. If I’m looking at this from a developer perspective, you can complete all these tasks, you just haven’t completed the prerequisite task of choosing a team.

So like, this ain’t getting added to the backlog.

Can you not do raids??? Why are those all unfinished.

You could try to organize yourselves and demonstrate your collective ongoing commitment to the game and to your cause, and hence your value to Scopely as customers. To Scopely you’re probably just outliers on a spreadsheet, dismissed or not noticed at all. You will need to work to make them take you seriously. Make a subreddit, a discord channel, host get-togethers at the regional events. Something that can *grow* and potentially motivate others to join, or at least take you more seriously. That’s how you eventually might get some dedicated content.

OP – I think teamless is a neat side challenge and wish you the best in getting the powers that be to adapt anything.

On the off chance they read this thread – a real easy fix for the raid issue is to omit the “Choose your team” prompt when clicking on a gym with an active raid.

That aside – I wonder if all the haters in this thread see someone play Z1 swordless or Mario64 on the lower star challenges get as angry with how other people spend their free time as they do with you.

    >nothing will be taken away from anyone

Developers’ time and hence Niantic’s profits will be taken away from them. Which means to cater to a non-intended game-play style, Niantic has to take time away from removing bugs (already a crazy amount of them nowadays) or developing new (better?) content. If not, they’d have to charge the paying players, who play the game as intended, more to make up for the lost profits. Or should they jack up the prices specifically for players with no teams, since that should be doable as well?

Also, how would you propose a fair and equitable conversion from “Win a raid” challenges to your suggestions? Some players might find winning a raid tougher than catching a certain amount of Pokemons (those with auto-catchers) or walking a certain distance (players who ride/drive for a living); the reverse is also true (players with less stops nearby or are not mobile, doing more remote raids). Any way it’s done, there will be people at a disadvantage.

    >Everyone should be able to enjoy the game

…Everyone is. You literally just chose not to. I don’t like Raiding and I despise GBL. Should every task be adjusted just to suit me?

“Team Harmony” is nothing the devs did intend. They intended three teams, It is your own fault to choose that path.

  14. I’m going to try to say this in the least rude way possible: you chose to limit yourself like this.

Team Harmony is not real from the game point of view, at least from the technical and development side.

You’re purposefully skipping and avoiding one of the core mechanics of the game and then asking developers to jump hoops to accommodate you.

No one here is out there to get you or maiming you on purpose. These problems you find are just consequences of an act developers never foresaw because it’s just not the way the designed the game to be played.

  15. Substantial_Zone_713

I mean.. you literally have to do raids and battle in gyms to be considered “experienced” and thus be able to progress past level 40. You can’t skip some of the core mechanics of the game and think you’re qualified enough AND be rewarded for it. That’s not how it works.

  16. Aggravating_Hotel621

    Easy fix. Choice team.

Like me saying why do i have walk to play pokemon go

  17. ATG15ATG13

Simple response to your post. You’re not on a team. You’re choosing to not the play the game as it was designed. To ask/expect change to the rules to accommodate someone choosing not to play the game as intended is a great example of entitlement.

  18. Wild_Silvally_Dreams

If you’re going to request alternative level-up task lines, will you please promote letting players win 100 raids with friends as an alternative to receiving 50 Lucky Pokémon in trades? I always found the Lucky Trade task unfair and wanted it nerfed, removed, changed, or given an alternate that can be completed in its place even after clearing it after about 8 months of being stuck on Level 48.

  19. XavierArrived_

You have a self imposed challenge that isn’t intended to be played, so why would the developers even think about this as a route players would even go down? You have a solution to this problem, just pick a team.

You shot yourself in the foot for 0 reason, and got surprised when it hurt.

  20. thehatteryone

While I agree somewhat with the ‘you chose your hard mode’ comments, I was also glad that Team Harmony members will finally at least be able to get past L40 when the level rebalance happens. But I do also like that the level up challenges force people to have a proper try of all the different aspects of the game, if they wish to achieve the higher (and pretty much just cosmetic) levels

  21. Your sense of entitlement is astounding. It’s your choice to play the game with a self-imposed restriction. Perhaps because it’s more challenging that way, and you derive fun in being challenged that way — good for you. The game should not alter its rules and design to cater to you because you find that your own self-imposed restriction is resulting in your inability to participate as a player and access features, as is intentional.

If you want to enjoy the game “without restrictions”, the only thing stopping you is your own self-imposed restriction. Not the game’s rules/design. Everyone *already* can “decide for themselves what type of content they want to engage with”. **You** decided for yourself the content you don’t want to engage with by consciously and intentionally not choosing a team, so to whine that you’re being treated unfairly because you don’t get to access content that requires your picking a team is, I reiterate, astoundingly entitled behaviour.

Get a grip. You aren’t being discriminated against. You’re just incredibly entitled, and if you’re representative of those who’d identify as being in “team harmony”, I’m glad there’s not a larger presence of your kind in the game.
