Well, I think everyone has heard how strong psychic Pokémon were in the first generation, for various reasons (too many poison types, only a ghost line that reaches its potential with trading, etc.) and the lack of fire types in Sinnoh.
Among all the regions, which do you think is the most balanced, in the sense that there isn't a specific type that sweeps the entire region. And while we're on the subject, does this same region have good Pokémon for most types?

Personally felt that BW1 had plenty of solid options for every type, and nothing swept all that much of the game.
Gen 9 feels the most finished when it comes to BUG moves, and added multiple new TMs, after all those years of bugs having 1-2 bug moves, now Heracross and Scyther have like 8 different bug attack options in SV.
Rock and Ice needs some more attention, although, rock is definately still better then it used to be as accuracy used to be worse.
Not sure who has the best, but I’d argue that after og Sinnoh the worst ones would likely be Kanto and Johto. Kanto is flooded with poison for no reason and has several lines with the same typing and Johto despite introducing the dark, type only gives you Umbreon as a dark type before the elite 4. Both also seriously lack ghost and dragon options.
Maybe an easy answer but Unova ? It has the largest pokedex and I find it easy to include any type into your team (You can get a pokemon of each type before the sixth badge)
B2W2 lets you get riolu, mareep, azurill, growlithe and magnemite before gym 2 which was pretty cool

Sinnoh, obviously. Nothing unbalanced about that ratio of fire types to water types…
Definitely unova, both in terms of type availability and type viability they looked at bug and ice and were like “weakest types you say? Hold my leavany and vanillux”
I haven’t played the following:gen 7,gen 6, gen 5,gen 4,gen 3,and gen 2.(I played the gen 1 remaster back in 2018 of lets go Eevee and Pikachu.) so in conclusion,I’m very unsure.
As much hate as Paldea gets (much for obvious justified reasons, some for dumb arguable reasons) I‘d say Paldea has the most balanced Dex in terms of strength, availability and distribution. You can get quite strong Pokémon that don’t evolve or evolve late in the early game and in every part of the region you find various types to choose from. It was a nice freedom I miss in older games.
I’d also like to address how in Gen 1, the Ghost type literally didn’t matter against the balance, because (probably) due to a bug Psychic types were *immune* to Ghost. (And the only moves were Lick and Night Shade.) The only super-effective moves against Psychic were Twineedle (only by part-*Poison* Beedrill), Leech Life (Power 20 and learned by Paras line or part-*Poison* Zubat&Venonat lines), and Pin Missile (Power 14 multi-hit, accuracy 85%, only learned by Beedrill or Jolteon). Psychic types were just unstoppable lol.
I wonder if the best balance would be found before or after Fairies coming in?
I think it’s Paldea. You can get pretty much any type you want very early in the game, and there are a lot of available Pokemon for each type.
Unova has a pretty balanced region to where one type isn’t dominating since you have the gym leaders, elite 4, rivals and boss fights that all have very different teams meaning you gotta make your team very diverse. also a lot of the gym leaders have pokemon that are able to fight against their types weaknesses
Dragon really has it easy, and some have it bad like ice for example.
Orre.
Unova games had a really good balance in types for their new Mons. Paldea is a close second too with the generous amount of distribution, allowing many options to pick and choose for your team.
Probably alola or galar.
At least we know the regions that its definitely not
[I made this to help to decide](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/1ndcmt0/which_region_is_most_balanced_typewise_i_made_the/)
Unova, the most hated region but clearly the best (and last) effor they ever put into the series
It’s gotta be gen 6 & gen 9.
Gen 6 gives you any tool you ever need immediately
Gen 9 you can go anywhere and fill your roster as you need. All regulations had fairly balanced distribution which shows how balanced it has been each micro generation
I don’t know the answer. I would say, though, that I don’t think type availability and strength *should* be entirely balanced. Some type are widely available at the beginning of the game and have Pokemon that level and evolve fast, others tend only to be available in the late game, on some small slice of land deep in Meteor Falls, and take a long time to bring to full potential. (I know that Bagon is not the only Dragon type in RSE, of course. It’s just the best.) That gives the games texture.
Balance is not ideal for type matchups either, I think. Some types should be good offensively, others should be bad. Some should be good defensively, others bad. There can be little triangles (Fire / Water / Grass) in the game, but the entire type matchup chart doesn’t need to be an octadecagon. The types should not be reskins of each other. (So, I guess controversially, while I love the idea of Fairy type in terms of lore and flavor, I think it removes some texture from the type chart as a nerf to Dragon and Fighting and as a buff to Steel and Poison offenses.)
That’s not to defend the scarcity of Fire types in DP, of course.
Unova
Definitely not Sinnoh
Kanto /s
Unova
Highly think Unova since its like a reboot so most mons have balance dex numbers. Though they tend to be focused on Bug and Dark types (which I like the most).
Gen3 so much waters and water type mons..
Gen4, missing out on Fire types
Gen6, too few mons
Gen7, leans towards Fairies and Fighting types but kinda balance too
Gen8- Gen9 not sure lol
Not Kanto
Is this just considering new Pokemon for that region or pokemon in the region itself?
If so, people are sleeping on XYs whopping 454 dex size, which no base game has beat yet
People saying Gen5 also must only consider new Pokemon and not total, considering every base game after B2W2 had the same dex size or larger by 100+, excluding only ORAS
Alola in ultra sun and moon you can get one Pokémon of each type before you leave melemele island.
I’d say Paldea. It is very generous with its types, allowing you to catch even Dragon-types early on.
Worst I would say is Sinnoh, by far. Like Poison, Dark and Bug types? Too bad! You’re getting them! Who cares about Fire, Electric, Ice or Dragon types?! We don’t! It’s so bad, even Gym Leaders or Elite 4 with those types can’t even use a full team!
i know what tauros would say
I dunno if it is the best but the Orre region is really unique perspective.
You could be a very disadvantaged hero and play with only real typed Pokémon OR you could not care about how the Pokémon, feelings and go for pure power and some Defense and keep Pokémon a Shadow Type. Halfsies is evil imo. The Pokémon is shadowed but also has a few regular typed moves unlocked.
This is way more true for XD than Colosseum. I might have also only ever played XD.
It clicked a couple years ago how unbalanced steel type is. It resists so much it’s crazy. It was because they released Gen 2 hot off the presses and were probably flabbergasted that Red and Blue sold the way they did. So they thought “Let’s add a hype new type,” and as they exited the millennium it’s not like they had a deep conversation of what “meta balance” is.
Of course it’s gen 1 no Ivs and Evs to worry 😅
Gen 3 tbh
I honestly think Gen 5 going completely off the cuff with all new Pokemon had the most balanced dex.
Hisui.
